Question about Barbour Commander

After silently watching AJB007 for a little over a year now, I finally made my first purchase to begin my foray into the 007 look. I got a deal on a very gently used Barbour Commander jacket on ebay. I purchased it in large, as that was what was available. It fits great in the shoulders but is unfortunately large down the rest of the torso.

Any recommendations on how to proceed? Should I try to trade someone for a medium, get it altered (I heard rumors that Barbour offers this service when you buy direct from them) or just deal with the extra room?

Barbour do offer tailoring I had the sleeves done on mine, they did an excellent job if that helps

Yeah, shoulders are what needs to fit. Tailor anything else. Sounds like you got the right size. :007)

Random question. I'm looking at getting my sleeves shortened a few centimetres. This might sound daft but, when they shorten them do they re-do the leather cuff? Any pointers on how I should measure the length I need them shortened by?

Also, general storage/hanging. By the loop on a hook or coat hanger? Thanks in advance!

Barbour do it via mail order, just post it off to them.

Always hang jackets and coats on a hanger, preferably a wooden hanger that's breathable and not a cheap plastic one. While most coats, if well made, will not stretch from being hung by the loop for short periods of time but I once left an upland field coat hung on a hook for several months of warn weather and I ended up with a Quasimodo style hunch between the shoulder blades. I was able to have it repaired by taking it for dry cleaning but I always hang my jackets and coats on hangers now.

How much did they charge, if you don't mind my asking?

Take a look at the photo I posted here:

Post #116 shows that in the UK at least, sleeve shortening is £27.50

Although I've still not gotten my jacket tailored, here is what I found on Barbour's website (in dollars): http://www.barbour.com/repairs_reproofing
Looks like $60 for sleeve shortening.

I have a different problem with my commander jacket (well...the original ToKito Beacon Heritage). I purchased a medium to obtain the fitted look seen in the movie, but I then realized it's very tight around the shoulders. I think The Mantis had exactly the same problem with his jacket and had the sleeves "taken out"...did any of you have the same experience? would I have to send the jacket to Barbour or do you think any tailor could do it?

I need my sleeve shortened. But slightly concerned they'll still be baggy. Is that a separate alteration?
