You Only Live Twice vs. Goldeneye

Having seen BOTH very recently and BOTH on Blu Ray I have to say I'm in a quandary. I *think* I like GE better for its cooler and slightly more believable plot and its better bad guy, but YOLT is just such great OTT 60's stuff...

What say you, my fellow agents?
Dalton & Connery rule. Brozz was cool.

    I really enjoyed YOLT, but GE just seems to eclipse it in most ways.

    Almost everything about YOLT is good and almost everything about GE is great.

    YOLT wins in theme song, sound track and scenery.

    GE wins in action, visuals, humor, believability, acting, plot, "bond girl", innovation and villains.

    Ha, YOLT easily. It has a scope and spectacle that GE can't hope to achieve. Connery is a far more interesting Bond, the set pieces are bigger and better thanks to Ken Adam, and the soundtrack is easily one of the best in the series. GE looks and feels like an HBO movie of the same era

    Perhaps there is a case for Connery's Bond being better than Brosnan's, but not Connery's Bond in YOLT. Like in Thunderball, there was a slow trend of him looking more haggard, stressed and disinterested with each movie after Goldfinger.

    GE hands down. A great villain and hechwoman. YOLT definitely has a better soundtrack.

    Haha, just telling it like it is. The funny thing is that Casino Royale, made by the same director, looks so completely different.

    Seriously, the scene where Alec asks Bond about all the martinis silencing the screams alone makes GE an awesome entry. -{

    Yeah. M's opening monologue too. Goldeneye had 6 years to deliberate and think about what it wanted to be, and while I can't justify the long wait, I can say that the final product was great.

    Agreed (And the same applies to CR IMHO).
    YOLT was an incredible film, but it hadn't the finer nuances that GE brought to the party... -{
    Which is why I see them as so hard to rate one above the other.

    Predictable as always! :))

    But I stand by my position - YOLT is one of the most enjoyable of all Bond films. Even more than GE.

    Sitting down for a Bank Holiday Bond I would choose YOLT over GE. Agree that it has the 60's magic. The soundtrack and sets alone rank it higher than GE for me :)

    Speaking of Bank holiday Bonds, reminds me of the pressure I'd put on my parents as a kid,
    to get back home ( from the beach or Zoo etc, on Bank holidays) so we'd be home in time
    to watch Bond ! :))

    Great days {[] The days before video recorders, videos, DVD's, OnDemand.. Things were much simpler back then. If you missed it. You wouldn't see it on TV again for a long time to come.. :# It is of course much better to be able to watch any film, any time we want to now, but there was something so special about those Bank Holiday Bonds as a kid :)
