^ Claude Renoir's cinematography would be my only con. I don't really like how this film looks. The colour is nice, but there's certainly a void between the look of TSWLM and MR. It's as if they didn't use tripods or dollys. To, it makes this film looks slightly dated over entries around the same time - almost like TB/YOLT.

I like elements of it, just like I like elements of Serra's GE, Conti's FYEO. I think Hamlisch's Bond Theme is the best out of all the non-Barry composers. But the rest of the soundtrack just doesn't fit into the film that well.
LALD is one of the interesting, original scores like all the non-Barry dudes, but it just works so well cinematically - probably the closest to Barry.

The lack of Barry doesn't bother me, but to each their own.
Lack-O-Barry is a serious condition.
Yes. Marvin Hamlisch, however, did write an amazing theme in 'Nobody Does it Better' and uses it well throughout the score. There are some very Barry-esque cues as well. The source cues for the Pyramids and Mojave Club are really cool. The disco cues are fantastic as well, but they date the film. If John Barry had scored this, I wonder if he would have given it a disco feel since he did that for parts of The Deep the same year. My biggest problem with the score is that it doesn't sound very unified. There are just so many different styles of music, though none are inappropriate. It would be great if the score could be released on an album some day since it's the only Bond score that has not at all been released. The music on the soundtrack album was instead arranged specifically for the album.
LALD and FYEO suffer more from "Lack-O-Barry" because the composers did not try to do the Bond sound that Hamlisch mostly attempted. Both films have fantastic scores, yet they detract from the Bond feel of the films.
The lack of Barry doesn't bother me, but to each their own.
While I like Hamlish's score, I always wonder...what if Barry had done it. My opinion on the film would instantly jump...maybe even a top 5 rank. I rank many Bond films a lot higher than I should because of Barry alone
There's one particular shot in TSWLM, that always really impressed me.
As the helicopter lifts off, the camera pans across and up to Stromberg's
room, where he's looking out the window and then walks off.
for 1977, and using " Old school" techniques, I think that's One hell of
a shot. -{

Yeah, last time I watched it I really noticed that. Amazing.
One thing that bothers me in the movie... the repeated shooting of Stromberg. It should have been a simple one/two IMO. 8-)
I never liked that either.
I don't see Roger going for it. I bet they intentionally used bits from multiple takes to make it seem more vicious than he thought it would be in the final version...
I like the repeated shooting of Stromberg, because to me a simple one-two would prob have been anticlimactic.
I'm thinking of Silva's death in SF, which feels a bit too simple for me. (Just throwing that in for comparison.)

I loved that bit. Emptied the clip, if I remember? It's been a while since I've seen it. But it was a nice Bond moment for me. Anything Moore could do to sharpen his edge, I was in favor of.

It just seemed like some hold over from when Stromberg was Blofeld in the original draft of the script. Now BLOFELD I could see him shooting like that. :v

True. But Moore was at his best for me when he could summon up whatever cold brutality he had: kicking the car off the cliff in FYEO, swatting the henchman off his tie to let him fall off the rooftop in TSWLM, shooting Stromberg multiple times, putting Drax out the airlock in MR, etc.
