LTK, for Me. -{ Dalton gives a great range of emotions and action work in it.
Not that he's bad in TLD, just better in LTK, it would have been amazing to
See what he could have done in a third film. :)

    I think TLD myself.

He uses more of his range in LTK, but he was just perfect in TLD.

He didn't need the range as much in TLD, but I thought his portrayal in that film was just spot on, the best I have ever seen.

LTK was more suited for his dark Bond but TLD was a well balanced performance all around.

He was almost perfect in both.

The Living Daylights is a more classic outing, although he has layers of depth, subtleties, to his characterization.

Licence To Kill, featured a more animalistic interpretation, where Bond loses his sheen of sophistication, exposing the blunt instrument beneath. For most of the movie Bond fights with his heart, the personal nature of the story clouding his judgement, making his aim sloppy. It is only once Bond learns about the stinger missiles is he finally able to treat his vendetta as a mission, and he finally gains control of the situation]

I think he gives a better performance in LTK, but I think TLD is considerably better as a movie.

I had not seen LTK for ages, then I watched it on DVD last Friday, and it was on telly on Saturday so I saw a fair bit of it then too (I happened upon it whilst channel surfing and couldn't turn it off even though I had watched it the day before!).

Fantastic Bond film, I had forgotten how good it really is.

I can see now why it polarised fans of the franchise, but I think it was a great film and went in the right direction for TD's character. The story and film really played to his strengths.

His performance in TLD is simply pathetic - cuddly and weepy teddybear in love with a Cellocase would be a better title X-(
LTK is more acceptable and less tears, so we have a winner from the bottom of the barrel {[]
His hairstyle is better in TLD though - how can anyone forget the Dracula smear in his hair :s

Tough one. I think for the most part LTK doesn't provide him with a great deal to do, generally just the standard lone wolf set on revenge with no concern for anything/anyone else sort of Hollywood stuff. I think he does it well, certainly all the scenes with Sanchez and at the Barrelhead bar but it becomes monotonous because there's little variation.
TLD is a much better range, most of it done very well. He excels with showing rage and anger in the infamous balloon scene plus the pretty cold killing of Whittaker and I think he has good warmth with Sunders and Kara (I tad tragic with the later at times), However the humour he cant really pull off at all.

    As Dalton is clearly the best Bond I can find no fault in his performances. :D -{

He's great in both films, but I prefer him in TLD.

I feel he mixed humor with drama to great effect in that one.

In LtK, his portrayal was much darker, akin to the film's tone, and while I love him there as well, I just prefer his TLD performance.

But overall, a solid back-to-back legacy as Bond, and had he been in at least 2 more films, he would've easily surpassed Connery in terms of consistency, as Connery's performance level declined after GF imo.

He's more at home in LTK, his line delivery is a bit awkward at times in TLD but he shines in some scenes (eg Pushkin interrogation).

Agree with you about his delivery of some lines in TLD but I like his performance much better in this movie.

He conveyed an angry (bordering on psychotic) loner very well in LTK because he is a good actor. Was he playing Bond though? It just felt a bit too much for me. Last time I saw LTK I didn't enjoy it at all.

    I have to say TLD.

In this film I think he just encompasses Fleming's Bond completely.

The slightly jaded Bond, who has seen a lot of action and has become somewhat disillusioned with the job. He drinks, smokes, disobeys orders now and then.

He does not womanise so much, but Fleming's Bond did not womanise all the time anyway.

I will always think Connery is the real heavyweight Bond with the best clutch of films. But I think TD in TLD gave the best single performance as Bond.

    He just nailed it.

Good points both of you. I think the way Dalton plays Bond like that is another reason why I love this movie.

He was great in both films. I had always wanted to see a film that includes the Leiter shark situation, and we finally got it with Licence. Tim performance in that scene is pretty much what I envisioned in the LALD novel. This thread makes me want to watch LTK right now.

For me TLD is the better film but I think Dalton's performance in LTK is more varied and complex. He just seems a bit more comfortable.

"More of a problem eliminator" comes to mind as a pure example of how good he was in LTK.
