Bond movies ahead of their time?

Which movies do you think were ahead of their time?

I think when the developed world has a real environmental crisis and corporations start profiting from it, Quantum of Solace, to some extent, will get a re-appraisal.

In some ways you could argue the very first one Dr. No was ahead of it's time. If i'm not mistaken that was the first time in cinema to feature a half naked man and woman in a bed together, and Bond openly using her for sex even though he knew she was a baddie. That's all standard stuff nowadays, but that had to be a big deal back in the day!

I would also say Licence to Kill was ahead of it's time, or atleast ahead of it's audience. It's one of the least commercially succesful Bond movies, it got negative reviews for the same reasons Craig's movies get praised.

LTK is really a foreshadowing of the Craig Films -{ Even Dalton has praised Craig's Performance.

:)) I've only been reading a piece about MR, were it said they'd hoped to time
The film opening with the first launch of the shuttle but NASA let them down. :D

Like QoS. Except I feel like MWGG was more of a cash-in on the whole OPEC thing in the 70's whereas QOS came out from left field.

I don't think LTK was ahead of its time - it was ahead of its time for the Bond films though.

I'd say QoS. As the finances of the planet start to bite - it could be seen as that. Also the countries of the world divvying up the remaining water supplies

Also LALD did show how much drugs infiltrated the world in the seventies

    GF - a laser, in 1964?? Really?

YOLT - you only need to sit back and look at the film, and ask yourself how they could have pulled the whole thing off.

    MR - as mentioned already.

    Perhaps Dr. No as well.

I think it was the first time the "hero" in a film shot a knowingly unarmed opponent? I heard it caused a bit of a stir at the time.

I remember reading a few old articles on Dr No ( before my time) where several
Critics commented that Bond and his actions couldn't be distinguished from
The techniques of the villains. :))

Agree. It was a huge step up from TB. It was perhaps the most imaginative of all the Connery films.

Yeah. They forgot that Bond was symbolism for the foreign policy in general. Yes, Bond is a ruthless killer like Dr. No, but one side is trying to preserve the world's freedom and the other is trying to take it away.

The same people who were saying Dr. No was too violent were probably the same ones saying "burn the commies alive!!".

The early Connery Bond films were revolutionary. They completely redefined what a hero could be.

I agree with those who said LTK. It's like a prototype of the DC films.
