I decided I will give it a shot - it was kind of a way to spend my break in between studying because it took me around 15-20 minutes to make, so it's definitely not the most accurate version - but I believe I made it already more accurate then those guys selling the rings. I will upload a vector version on Box and provide a link for downloading later. :)

Considering how easy it is to subcontract laser engraving at local jewelers.. All that is needed is a good rendering of the octopus to provide for the engraver.. 7mm wide brushed steel rings are cheap.. This would be an easy DIY project..

I also tried to create a vectorized version of the Spectre logo.
Since we only have a single screenshot from the trailer until now, I think it will also not be 100 percent accurate.
Maybe it's worth to wait until we have more pictures.

Nice!!! I made some adjustements around the neck area because that's where my version was the most "wrong" but since you made already a pretty accurate one I will pass :)

Chance is however that we will have a better look on the logotype in the movie and it might turn out wider than it looks in the teaser for instance! So the best version will be created after a BluRay release anyway, so I would put buing replicas on hold until then :)

Yeah, for me one of the most uncertain details are the tentacles. I could imagine, that they may not be tapered. Then the logo could look something like this. But as long as no new images of the logo appear from somewhere will everything be wild guess.

Prefer your first one and, for me, looks the closest to SA

The armpit (sorry I really couldn't think of a better description) need bringing down very very slightly.

The head needs to come down slightly too, and the neck made very very slightly wider.

The legs need to taper along all the length, not just til the midway point. The ends radius needs to be smaller than the 1st attempt.

Centre leg of the first design, other legs from the 2nd attempt.

The centre leg also needs to extend past the length of legs 3 and 4 by about 0.8x the width of the head.

My wedding band, though not shaped like the new SPECTRE ring, is similarly plain and silver-toned. I wonder if my wife will notice the addition of the octopus, lol.

Hey, Kan's the man--the man with the Midas touch. My Etsy-wetsy was just a comment on the speed of merchandising these days. Kan takes his prop details seriously.

Damn, has someone else noticed that Larson Jewelers took the first version of the SPECTRE logo here to replace the octopus on their ring on their website? That's really quick and we have even a holiday.

But that explains why their engraving looks so flat. It's only photoshopped at the moment.

Tbh I can't say I blame them. There's a market, a good profit margin and for them it's very little effort needed in order to make some good coin.

When you see other stuff like the Argie crap and badly copied stuff from the east selling for big money, it's quite a good indicator that regardless of quality, if there's a bond connection, someone will buy it.

I do. Unless they have Tintin's permission to use his work it's still intellectual property theft, regardless of the fact that it's based on something invented by someone else. These kind of things are protected even if you haven't sold them or registered them as trademarks. Usually it's allowed to create replicas of a lot of stuff for one's own use - like we do here. But here they just took someone else's work, put it on a render and gave a 100$ price tag - which is truly miserable.

    :))

We're speculating that Larson's 'took' Tintin's logo and are using it on their spectre ring.

There's no way in hell Tintin would have any case against Larson's as the logo is already the IP of EoN Productions.

EoN however could step in and have Larson's product pulled from the market on grounds of IP and copyright infringement, particularly as not only are Larson's using the octopus logo, they're also marketing the ring as a Spectre item, and using the name James Bond, which would imply it's a piece of official merchandise, which I don't think it is.

Well, that's not exactly how I see it - remember that Tintin, just like me, created this just for us around here - absolutely non-profit. Larson's are selling the ring using not their own work as some kind of an advertisement, and since it went public they're the only ones who actually can face legal consequences. I don't know the basis in anglo-american law regarding this problem but I'm pretty certain there is only one wrongdoer in this case. So it's more like - going 200km/h on a public motorway while another person is doing 200km/h in the same car on a closed track.

Hey, to set the record straight. I would like to take action against nobody and at no time I had the intention to make money or something else with my engagement.

As minigeff I also think that it should be the problem between Larson Jewelers and EON.

First and foremost I was simply trying to support Kan with the SPECTRE logo but actually I consider my work here as public domain for this amazing Bond community. My only request is it, that hopefully no one here from ajb leave the Kan train to take the Larson road.
  • minigeffminigeff EnglandPosts: 7,884MI6 Agent
Bear in mind people that the Larson Ring is the wrong size and finish.

Copyright/IP rattle chucking aside, I would much rather assist people here doing the work as there is one major factor involved - AJBer's have a genuine interest in the subject whereas others in a more commercial realm are more interested in profit margins.

I'm gonna experiment doing one for myself using a new technique, but I'll not be offering it out as I feel I'd be treading on Kan's or Tintin's shoes, which just ain't cricket.

Kan is the man, never been dissapointed in anything I've ever had from him {[]

His will also be SA regarding finish, I can't decide whether it's brushed or satin.
