I love all the old tech stuff, big computers using big reels of tape, paper
Print outs, and so many blinking, flashing lights. ;)

To me, the 60'ies movies have aged the best and the 90'ies movies the worst.

I think modern things tend to look dated faster. I look at things from early 2000s and think "That's so noughties!". It's probably because we don't view them as historical in the way that we view the sixties.

I believe that it's a good thing to be dated, because it is a sign of the times and so gives it some character

Those old computers in GE don't bother me a bit, but then I'm not a big computer guy... likewise seeing a payphone in a Bond movie doesn't bother me either.

I never said the computers bothered me either, I'm just saying stuff like that ages the hell out of movies.

You want to try listening to old 50s/60s radio sci-fi, ( I do occasionally) ;)
Sometimes to turn on their " Space radar" or some such device. They have
to " Warm up the valves" ;)

It's never been one of my favourites, I'm afraid, and I much prefer TND and TWINE.

Me too. I usually wonder if people like GE because of the video game.

    That's possible, of course.
All credit to GE for relaunching Bond though.

I never played it, and like it a lot. So I can safely say that the statement doesn't apply to me :)

Channel hopped onto LTK this week. Just one minute was enough, if that. It's the shabby, straight to video cinematography and worse, the corny dialogue of the pts, where Della the bride has to drive around the block again, and her father huffs and says 'I knew this was a mistake'. Cliche ville, and dated the first time round. That said, not sure ol' Dad had was wrong as far as it turned out for his lovely blonde daughter... :(

I think they idea of speaking of dated films is genally bad.
the films represent a certain time, like in this case LTK the 80's.
of course it will be different today but the same applies to SF and maybe even SP in 30years time.
but that's not necessarily a bad thing.the films take you back to past decades and for older people I would imagine so it will bring back some memories, too.
so it is a natural process that films will look "dated" afer some years.

But some films manage to be a lot more dated than others. Octopussy, for instance, doesn't feel nearly as dated as LTK. I like how costume designer Lindy Hemming attempted to make sure Bond did not dress in fashions of the time (he did a little, but not overtly so) because she wanted her Bond to look good to future generations, just as Connery still does.

I agree on Connery, and I think his haircut also has a lot to do with the timeless thing. It's funny because haircuts like Connery's from the sixties are really coming back nowadays. Seriously, guys everywhere seem to go for the whole hair seperation thing again. (I am guilty of that myself...) Another thing the 60'ies movies seemed to have aged the best on. I mean the longer hair from the 70'ies and 80'ies with the big sideburns looks terrible in some parts nowadays.
