The Real Casino Royale

I recently uploaded one of the best documentaries I've seen on Fleming and Bond--The Real Casino Royale, produced by the BBC in 2006.

You can watch it here: https://youtu.be/cW9dB0PM6sk

I'd rather hear your reactions than state my own, so here's the official synopsis:

"As a new film version of the book Casino Royale opens in cinemas around the world, Andrew Graham Dixon explores the crucial moments in Ian Fleming's life which inspired him to create James Bond. The documentary combines previously unseen archive footage of Fleming with dramatised readings from the novel and follows Graham Dixon on a mission to uncover the real stories behind Casino Royale. He interviews friends and family of the author and those involved in the film, including the new 007 Daniel Craig."

Note: due to music restrictions, the video cannot be viewed in Canada and Germany (which is sort of fitting, given Fleming's dislike of Germans)--unless you use proxies.

I too recorded this when it was first shown in November 2006 on BBC 4 and I agree that it is an excellent literary Bond documentary. Thanks for the link, Revelator.

Really well done documentary. Gives a nice in depth research into Fleming's life and how he came to write Cr. Pity they gave it a veneer of hucksterism with the repeated use of the theme from TB. I can't see why they would use the music from another Bond film for this documentary. It doesn't fit it at all - it's as if one were tuning into a nice radio talking heads program that keeps being interrupted by music leaking in from the next station. Not that theme from Craig's film would have worked either. In fact, the story would have worked fine without any music. This happens often with Bond documentaries.
They blare the music from the films through out them as if no one would know they are about Fleming or Bond if they didn't inject tracks from the scores.
