And when he leaves Dominic in the desert; a classic witty death. And White in the opera: "I guess Tosca isn't for everyone". Fields' death is witty in the sense that it's a homage to Goldfinger. I don't think any of the Craig films have really been 'light'; Skyfall is more depressing in my opinion than Quantum of Solace. Even though Bond is a broken man in QoS he's still capable of action, whereas in Skyfall he has an existential crisis! And M dies!
I particularly like two lines:
• "Please, my friends call me Dominic"-"I'm sure they do!"
-Bond indirectly tells greene to get lost
• "Goodbye, Mr.Greene"
-sounds to me like Bond is ending a business )
"You see Mr.Bond, you can't kill my dreams...but my dreams can kill you.Time to face destiny" - "Time to face gravity"
Yes. The " I'm sure they do" , is a lovely old school
Bond insult. -{ I do think DC suits these gritty jibes,
rather than the Roger Moore style. Only my oponion
of course.
Chris, Bluray is always better
"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."
Okay, I'm back with the Blu Ray (It was in the $5 bin where I work). My Son has consented to watch it with me. I've shown him a spread of Bonds in the past couple of years, but the only one he really liked (and asked to see a second time) was DN. I told him this was like DN- short, to the point, no lasers & played perfectly straight. I'll let ya know how it goes.
You have no idea... but my boy seem to think the funny & cool stuff has no place in these kind of films. He like the M:I movies, btw.
Well, we started it and his first comment was "This is REALLY well photographed!" We are on a short break due to sudden artistic inspiration, and will resume when his drawing is done.
For MY part I have to say, yes, this is an amazing picture, much better than the DVD.
My Son's review (relayed):
It wasted no time, was very internally consistent, it was a good movie, but it lacked the Bond theme during it, and it was a bit more 'realistic' than he expected.
That's my boy! )
I like this film more then most people do. Everyone says it should be longer. And while I have no problem with more Bond I don't see a need for QOS to be longer. I thought it wrapped everything up quite nicely for the first Bond sequel. We're the villian memorable. No. Was it as good as CR? No, but Imo CR is hard to top. This may be the forgotten film of the Craig era, but If this is the "worst" film he does then the franchise is in good hands. Not great film but I'd definitely say above average.
When I say QoS should be longer, I mean there should be a few more minutes added to clarify what's going on in some scenes:
The scene where Mr. White escapes and people are being shot, or the really expensive action scene where Bond and the enemy henchman are swinging from a rope in a tall building.
Just watched it again, and I agree completely with what AC said above. Just a few seconds, not even a minute in total, during those scenes and a few others, would improve them dramatically.
Overall, it's a great film though. It's nowhere near as shallow as it's often made out to be, and in parts succeeds in resonating. Craig's performance is fascinating (it's called objectivity: he's still my least favourite Bond), and Arnold's music (especially "A Night At The Opera") is appropriate and enjoyable. Note that I said Arnold's music!

"A Night At The Opera" is one of Arnold's best tracks and evokes the ostinato-based tracks that John Barry wrote for so many Bond films. This one particularly has a lot in common with the Space March from YOLT.
{[] Yup! Very haunting (and deliberately so, of course). Arnold has never made any secret that he uses Barry as a role model- I really, really hope he'll return!

I understand what you mean - but this wasn't anything to smile about...he's was trying to find out who was behind the killing of the woman he loved...

that may very well be the reason
Strangely enough I find Greene hobbling along in the desert more haunting then a lot of villains deaths. There's something eerie about it..
