For Your Eyes Only still the best one in the series for me.. Cold war more realistic approach. Other Bond films like FRWL, TLD, LTK and GE all feel similar with their tone, but this does it the best for me. I have no flaws with the movie, except that maybe Bond killing the villain himself would have improved on it a bit.
A major flaw would be the Bond girls casting. Melina is stunning but has the personality of homemade yogurt, and Bibi is a weird sexual predator Chiwawa.
They did nail the Countess. She is an all time favorite. Her dress and cape is iconic.

So is her unfortunate and untimely death. Wish she played a bigger role in the movie.
I liked that Bond tried to shout at her to come back, but she was too far away to hear him. The look of guilt and sadness on Bond's face and the way Roger delivers the "goodbye, countess!" line make this a great scene. I liked Bond's outfit in the scene as well. Chris Wright, from James Bond Radio, said during the review of the film, that the outfit was straight out of OHMSS, or similar and i agree with him.

Her literary counterpart (in "Risico") Lisl Baum, survives. One of Fleming's more interesting characters- I do wish he'd expanded the story into a full novel.
AFAIK , Moore never wore a hat as Bond (unless you count those ski hats) so how come he throws one onto the hat rack , a reference to Connerys Bond ?
He wears a top hat with his morning suit in AVTAK.
The trilby on the rack was for tradition. I don't believe Connery wore a trilby after FRWL (except for filming the TB gun barrel), but he still threw one onto the rack or just walked around holding it. Perhaps because he always wore a trilby in his gun barrel he still threw one.
The other night I watched the 1985 Schwarzenegger film Commando and there is a car chase in there that looks almost identical to the Citroen chase in FYEO.

I was referring to hats like he wore in FRWL and not riding hats etc
