Bit of shameless self-promotion time.
I recent completed by dissertation entitled "Cold War Politics and the Decline of Empire in Ian Fleming's James Bond Stories"
The essay was broken down into three chapters: The Anglo-American Alliance, the use of fear and Nuclear Warfare and Fleming's use of Jamaica.
I used a lot of interesting sources and it could be good if anyone is looking for Bond related books.

Which empire declined during the time period of Fleming's books? Britain's was pretty much done with the independence of India, and America's grew (and continues to do so), in military domination at least if not in proper colonial nomenclature.
I look at the representation of Britain's decline in the books and compare that to the growth of America's.
