Bonhams 24 June 2015

http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/22444/lot/112/

Oh I so want this, but think it will blow the estimate out of the water, good for research purposes though.

Unfortunately this next lot will need withdrawing, am awaiting a call back from the Bonhams "Specialist" :# :# :#

Not that lucky, unfortunately :# But will try again in Oct/Nov.

Are you saying that Cathy is high maintenance? Be very careful how you answer that :D

I am long enough married (and have suffered accordingly) to not reply such a question :D

But there is still enough left to beat Donk's 175 quid and the ugly toupee - I am upping it with a silly 007 hat :D

Sure is... but a slightly different set. Also, Marlow still has those chips in stock but are out of the blue plaques and the dealer buttons and mine have moved on. I need them, but not at Bonham's prices! But seriously, if anyone has either or both...

The only difference is in the chip mold, I believe the auction chips are from the first aftermarket run with the Hat & Cane mold, these were discontinued in 2002 and the newer ones are in the Paul-Son mold. I have also seen this set in the sunrise mold as well but I don't know what dates these were produced. The original SA chips were also in the Hat & Cane mold but as we know had red logo and lettering with different shape inserts for each denomination.

Don't worry about the tart spray Andy, I've got GA's of all the stuff in that set.

All I need is a few hundred quid and a time machine :/

maybe worth merging into the original Bonhams thread.

Yes. I think Paul-Son did three varieties:

    1. Film - Hat & Cane - red logo poker chips/black logo roulette chips

    2. Hat & Cane - variant designs including those at Bonham's with green logo

    3. Paul-Son mold - 2005, I believe.

The sunrise mold were Blue Co. chips, which has since shut down. I don't know their production date.

The earlier chips were loaded with lead for weight and have a nice, soft feel. I have some prototypes and etc. but am always looking for more and am happy to help collectors with questions about their chips and plaques.

Yep, concur, still waiting to hear back from Bonhams. Although I think that they will just be quietlty withdrawn from sale, think the seller has either been caught out or is in for a nasty shock. :#

UPDATE: Bonhams Specialists are discussing the issue and will come back to me accordingly

Asprey Angels of Death "Beautifully wrapped gift"

I'm no expert when it come to toiletries but I have more questions than answers on this piece. The thing that bothers me is the cardboard insert radio in the compact suggests to me a pre-production piece where it was created so the producers/production company could show for example Albert Luxford or Syd Cain how they wanted the piece to appear for screen duty.

There is also the possibility that if the set was a retail piece then perhaps the insert was a demonstration piece to show potential customers how the product would appear on screen? or a far fetched possibility could be that after receiving the set the production company returned it to Asprey so an insert could be fabricated to match the cardboard insert?

On a prop like the Asprey case, is it worth more as a screen seen prop or as a prototype (if it is such) at hammer time? How do collectors feel about prototypes vs. screen used?

    Donk, there is also the possibility that this was one of the non-hero prop pieces handled by the girls, with only the Angela Scoular piece being fully modelled. I believe the cosmetics are all from the same company which I think we're all familiar with, although it's a bitch to find some of the pieces. :# Still at least we have the actual dimensions of the case now, and I was only half an inch out on my estimates. -{

As a huge OHMSS fan, and collector, this would be a lovely addition to my collection.
Unfortunately, bidding against a world market with a 25% additional premium, plus freight, import duties, taxes, etc would bring that kit to just about divorce range!
    Ah well, someday...
Good luck with the bidding GM
