Yes, I think so too. Even if Daniel had got the gig back then. He too
Wouldn't have had the chance to shine in the role. Because all they
Wanted was a good looking guy, who'd look good in a few action set
Pieces and had enough comic timing to tell a joke.
I'm not running Brosnan down ( I quite like the guy) but I do feel, the
Producers saw him, ( and used him as ... ) a Roger Moore mark 2.

I do wonder with some of the films Brosnan has done lately.
November man and Survivor, is he in a way trying to show that
He could have been a much darker 007 ?
But neither film was widely distributed - which usually means they are rubbish ....Survivor has had some VERY poor reviews....
I enjoyed Brosnan's take on Bond...would have preferred stronger scripts, but I think he would too !

I watched The November Man and it wasn't particularly good. Brosnan was good, and nothing like his James Bond. But the character he played was quite unlike any James Bond.
If the script had have had another older lady for Bond to get lustful with,
and kept the fatherly aspect to Bond and Stacy's relationship, it may have
Worked better. -{

rBrosnan shows quite a wide range in that show. Other films like Butterfly on a Wheel and The Matador show Pierce Brosnan doing far more than he did as Bond.
He didn't do well as Bond did he? Apart from the pain faces?
rI haven't seen Daniel Craig do Shakespeare, but acting on stage is not the same as acting on film. Some actors are great at both, but many are not. I'm guessing that he may be a better stage actor than film actor.
I have in Merchant of Venice as Antonio and Loves Labours lost. You have to remember actos have master Shakespeare beforethey move onto film acting. Note the range of Arnold Swazzenegger compared with Ian McKellen. If they dont manage Shakespeare they aren't taken seriously as actors.
Sometimes I get the impression that Daniel Craig thinks James Bond is beneath him and may not be giving the role the attention it deserves. Similar to Sean Connery in Diamonds Are Forever, it's not something Daniel Craig wants to be doing either.
And how do you draw that conclusion about these films? Oh yeah, you made it up. Craig has been given free reign with Sam Mendes over SPECTRE. Skyfall made a billion at the box office. I would say teaming up with Mendes is pretty serious wouldn't you?

Though Craig is a Gen-Xer -- he and I are almost exactly the same age -- he is in many ways a Millennial's Bond, which is to say retro with some contemporary qualities. Some of us who teach, for instance, began to notice something change in our students about 10 years ago. That is, the range of facial expressions seemed more limited among students. We look out across the room, and blank stares are upon us, like those of people watching television or a computer screen that does not respond to nonverbal cues. Even when addressed directly, many of these students continue to look impassive, as though they are disengaged with the conversation. The argument goes it's because Millennials are far more like to socialize online than in person, and as a result, don't employ as many nonverbal cues as previous generations (and, in fact, may erroneously display cues that give others the wrong impression). To such a person, the full range of facial expressions common among performers in the past might seem to be "overacting" while to someone used to the same, the blankness of so much today might seem cold or even autistic.
Nah, Craig is quite narrow. There's more emotion shown on Connery's face in a single scene than in an entire movie with Craig. It is one of the few flaws I have with his portrayal of Bond.
Overall, Craig does have a kind of narrow range (he's said as much) and you wouldn't want him doing rom-com or, for that matter, any kind of comedy.
But his range is perfect for James Bond (or at least the current iteration). I've seen him convincingly display despair (the deaths of Vesper and M) irritation bordering on anger (when the DB5 gets blown up) self deprecation ("skewered") courage in the face of adversity (the torture scene), fear (when Silva dares him to shoot the shot glass off of Severine's head, and the car chase in QOS), camaraderie (the scenes with Felix Leiter-we need more Felix), ruthlessness (the PTS in CR).
Craig displays more genuine emotion in the thirty-second scene with the dying Ronson in the SF PTS than any other Bond actor has in any other scene in any Bond movie. You get concern, compassion, anger and resignation in thirty seconds.
Connery's Bond is iconic, but the only emotions he ever showed were lasciviousness, fear, and malice. I always found his portrayal more cold than cool, but it's brilliant!

Do you think Craig's Bond would show more or less the same anguish with Tracy's Death then Lazenby's Bond did?
I think you'd get a more complicated set of emotions- anguish, anger, regret, hatred, determination.
A thing I've noticed in Craig's Bond is that the only time he shows fear is when somebody else's life is in danger. When his own life is in danger it's more like he's pissed off.

I agree with your entire post. Many young guys today (myself included) are occupied with excessive internet, porn, video games, etc. Companies engineer technology to be this way, and we consume it endlessly anyway. It's a vicious cycle, of course. You go out and genuinely try to socialize with people, and when nobody responds to you in real life, you just hop online. This has limited our social capabilities without a doubt.
I also feel like Craig's sense of skepticism and mistrust represents a part of the Millennial generation. We grew up under a dark cloud of terrorism and war. A friend of mine is a college professor, an older gentleman, in the humanities and he told me of the 100 papers he collected, around half of them mentioned or referred to in some capacity income inequality, financial trouble or in general how the system isn't working.
" ..... excessive internet, porn ". ? Just how much is Excessive ? )
More than 7 hours a day. I only watch porn 6.9 hours a day so I'm fine.
In all seriousness, this is a serious topic:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMJgZ4s2E3w - Phillip Zimbardo giving a short talk about the dangers of excessive video gaming and porn, in terms of academic performance and social relationships.
And also there's a book called Boys Adrift, which I've heard of and haven't gotten to reading, but the thesis is practically the same.
Men are particularly falling behind women socially and academically, and since James Bond is a masculine series, Craig sort of represents both the modern Millennial and his fantasies.
I like Craig's hardened character, then again I'm in the rare camp of people who belives that Craig's Bond is still the same Bond from all the other movies instead of a re-hash "new start" James Bond
