With this post, I'm reacting more to trashing of Statham, because I'm a huge fan of his and I've watched more of his movies (even the really bad ones) than Craig's; e.g., my secret, guilty pleasures. IMO, Statham and Craig are not polar opposites but are different cuts from the same quality of meat, though the difference is that Craig had the opportunity to attend charm school so to speak.
I say this as a compliment to Craig, because I see so much Statham in his take on Bond in contrast to his predecessors in terms of his two-fisted rawness and to me, that's the appeal and novelty of the "Craig experiment." It's almost as if a Statham-type took pains to hone his acting skills in earlier movies (Road to Perdition and Layer Cake come to mind), who then was classed-up with a huge, EON effort (Martin Campbell and Paul Haggis retooling the mold).

Statham looks more like a thug than James Bond -- he could play a South Africa hit man or something, but I wouldn't want him as Bond.
That's what I was thinking. And can he do accents? He certainly doesn't speak like any previous Bonds have, and his accent doesn't fit with the character. He's too big an actor to be Bond anyway, and he'd be 50 when starting as Bond if he replaced Daniel Craig in the next film.
Plus, I've only ever seen Statham play one character in every film he's done. He does well in the sort of film he usually does but... I don't seen any further depth in his acting than that. He's certainly not suited to the part.
Also, I am bald but I don't want to see a bald Bond. Bond is not bald.
The big Question is, would he be able to play the various Emotions that come with Bond? If you look at his past Films, most his Characters are rather limited in there emotional output.

I love old Statham, always gives a good performance and can kick a
thug in the face with the best of them. -{ but for me, he's just not
Bond.
Yes SM, Higgins's performance made TND for me.

Statham is a talented actor, and can do a nice line in comedy to be
Honest I think he's better than some of the films he's been in, so I'd
Love to see him as a villain, it would give us a great final confrontation
