Currently the two headphones I have now are:
* Sennheiser HD 598 - Open sound with good mids. Very comfortable.
* Audio Technica M50x - Closed linear neutral sound. Very portable.
I'd say both of them are in the same ballpark as far quality goes.
I tried the Sennheiser Urbanite XL's, while they were good, I felt the ones I had were better. I also tried the ubiquitous Beats by Dre headphones. They are very overpriced, but I did like them.
From what I've researched, $100-200 price range in headphones are the best where you get the biggest jump in quality from a $20 pair of headphones, but don't have to pay $500 for a pair of headphones that are only slightly better if that.
I'm looking at the V-Moda Crossfade M100, the Custom Pro Black and the Sennheiser Momentum but I'm not sure if the ATH-M50x pretty much do the same thing as they do.
