One article I read regarding all this was promoting Damien Lewis and that there are oddsmakers putting him at 3/1 to be the next Bond. I laughed at the idea that someone is actually placing wages on who will be the next 007.

I just can't see Damien Lewis as a solid replacement. He is only 3 years younger than Craig. Personally, I am 100% satisfied with Craig's role as Bond and hope it continues as long as he's physically able to do so. As the old saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it! His movies are way too successful to try to jump ship and bring in another actor right now. Especially considering that SPECTRE looks amazing so far.

It's all just to sell papers and nothing more. Don't fall for it. Seriously, and no offense to those with it, but if a blond Bond caused all sorts of consternation, what would a redheaded Bond do?

The only thing I'm sure of is that the next actor to play Bond is someone who has yet to be widely considered in the press.

Why Does the new bond have to break new ground as far physical characteristics go? Everybody's saying their has to be a redhead or an african american why can't we just have another 6 foot dark haired guy? :)

I am just gonna be the downer and debunk Elba, Fassbender, Statham, Tom Hardy, and Henry Cavill...

The Next Bond, as all bond's before him will be...

    1) Someone way way further under the radar, At the most famous, a tv star like Brosnan on Remington Steele. Its just a fact They do this for the same reason they don't get big named directors, its cheaper, and the actor will have less obligations and can devote fully to the franchise
    2) Someone way way way younger than Daniel Craig, like someone who is 30 or younger right now

Connery got 6, Moore got 7 and Craig can't get 5?

Of course he can! I only said it would be better if he didn't. Just like it would have been better if Connery and Moore hadn't. Their final movies don't rate very well. I say leave when you're still ahead!

The Actor has very little to blame on that. An actor is only as good as the script. Brosnand made that parasailing scene as watchable as he possibly could.

African American? Not all black people are African American. Idris Elba for instance, the most talked about minority actor to potentially take on the role was born and raised in England; East London to be exact.

I don't think that was the intention here - to infer that all black people are African-American...I think you may have 'jumped the gun' there...of course, I could be wrong :s
Idris Elba just wouldn't work as Bond...he's too old...

I doubt that EON will cast a TV star as the next Bond. Of the six previous Bonds, only two were TV stars. Brosnan and Sir Rog.

And look how that turned out.

    I'm kidding, I'm kidding.

Anyway, everyone knows the next Bond will be Nicholas Hoult.

It's what people of younger generations in America were taught to call black people. The majority of black people in America are African American, so people don't know the proper term to call black people of other origins. Black was once an offensive term here, and other terms that were the "proper" term previously are now considered offensive. Someone from Africa would, of course, be called African, though that doesn't involve skin colour since white people I know in South Africa identify just as much as African. The African Americans I know just identify as black. Perhaps BlackLeiter can help us out.

This is a little off-topic, but as a college professor in the U.S., I've noticed my students now have TREMENDOUS confusion as to what to call people of African descent/nationality. I've had students call Othello an "African-American," and they seem to think any mention of slavery--be it in the Caribbean or in any British colony before it was outlawed--refers to the U.S. south's plantation system. These students are not trying to be offensive or ignorant--they're trying to be correct--but they're honestly not sure WHAT is "correct" these days. . .

    Quote from singer/actress Samantha Mumba.

"Now that success has come, Samantha is working hard, particularly in America. But in a country where 'African-American' has become a generic term for anyone of Afro-Caribbean descent, she says it has been difficult getting people to comprehend that 'there's no American in me'. Even after they accept she's Irish, stereotypes persist: 'Some Americans don't even think there's electricity in Ireland. They think I live on a farm.'

Some Americans need to get out of the country more.

My parents emigrated to Canada from Britain in the Fifties.

When my father took his driving test, the examiner asked, "What are you doing over here?"

To which my father replied, "I work for Westinghouse."

To which the examiner replied "No, I meant what are you doing on this side of the road?"

Not exactly on point, but funny nevertheless.

First of all they need to learn that quite a few of their Presidents were descended from Irish immigrants and in fact President McKinley's family came from a village not too far from where I live. Americans are by and large pretty provincial people and isolationism still exists as far as the general population is concerned...

A few years back in 2002, I popped into Dunhill in LA and they asked what my accent was, I told them it was English. The response was ' No Sir, English is a language, not an accent, where do you live?'. I still can't believe it.

    Some funny comments on this one :)) It would be interesting to see how various countries reacted to the casting of a Black Bond actor. If Idris Elba was cast, (which is unlikely do to his age) it would be interesting to see the various reactions around the globe. Though I would assume that most would be fine with it (as they should be). Even though it won't happen, and I love Daniel Craig, it would be very interesting to see Elba in a Bond film. I think he would make a good fist of it :) -{

    To be honest,

We are only getting all this speculation because there is nothing to write home about. The movie is not out yet and i am sure, as expected they will be people ready to praise it or pan it - but they cant. Once again they fall for the Idis Elba crap, newspapers pick it up and it becomes a story

Or, the lazy bastards go for who will be our next James Bond. That old cliche. If I was Craig I'd be pulling my hair out. But he learns how to deal with the press.

Lazy bastards the lot of them..
