Will we ever get another Roger Moore?

A lot of fans would hate this, but I wouldn't mind it at all. Do you think we will ever get another jokey bond like Moore? Moore can't be the only one, surely...

We'll never get another Moore. But we'll probably get a funny Bond at some point.

There aren't gentlemen like Roger Moore any more. We might get another Bond who makes jokes, but I identify Roger Moore most with his gentleman personality and mannerisms. If Daniel Craig started making fun of things and did a good job at it, he still wouldn't be anything like Roger Moore.

I think we did get another Moore in the form of Brosnan, from TND onwards. The big difference is that Brosnan attempted to balance the humor with grit and toughness, but the immature schoolboy that Connery introduced, then channeled by Lazenby and fully blown up by Moore, was very much present and palpable with Brosnan. No matter how the Moore brand of humor might be valued by viewers, Craig has successfully reintroduced the humor with an irreverently sardonic touch as seen in his first encounter with Vesper on the train.

I consider those examples as excesses and idiosyncrasies unique to Moore, but I was talking more about generalities and the overall flavor. Had the Tarzan yell and Beach Boys music been edited out, you’d still have the lighter and funny rendition of Bond by Roger Moore, which I'd hate to think is not entirely out of the question down the line just looking at what the producers were willing to do in the past to give the series the booster shot in the arm when they deemed creative changes in direction were needed. :s

To be honest we had that with Brosnan.

He was a greatest hits Bond; but he was given some truly crap lines from the Moore stable ("I always wanted Christmas in Turkey..") or some such line..

I think we will get jokey Bond. I think people are starting to see with Marvel films that not everything has to be dark and serious.

A Jokey Bond will still work, but I think the Humor would have to be more subtle.

I guarantee there will be another Roger Moore-like Bond. Just as it took 40 years to get another Sean Connery-like Bond, it may take a while, but people will grow tired of the ultra-serious Bond and eventually another generation will come along with different expectations (or marketers will make everyone think) that will usher in a completely different sort of Bond than the one before him. But I don't think we'll see the laughing-joking Bond for at least a little while.

Don't think we'll ever get another Moore, even in a broader sense, but I do think eventually we're bound to get another Bond who focuses on the more humorous aspects of the character in a series of more light-hearted films. Just depends on how long it takes for public sensibilities to demand that type of Bond again. This theoretical future Bond will also probably get comparisons to Moore, as Craig as been compared to Dalton ("darker" Bond, etc.), but as Craig brings new things to the character that no one could have predicted, so will the new light-hearted, Moore-esque Bond.

Moore is in that old tradition of British leading men, in many was he
Took over from David Niven. I can't think of another actor who fits the
Bill these days apart from Colin Firth. ;)

I don't think you'll see another Roger Moore, but after Craig you're likely to see another Sean Connery, cold, emotionally and physically invulnerable, unempathetic ubermensch.

I like Craig's iteration of Bond a lot, but after five movies I'd be interested in something different. A less emo, less suffering Bond but with the same gritty, hard edge (a DN or FRWL for the 2020s) could be well done and DC will be consigned to history with all the others.

As people have said the closest we've come is Pierce - and both shared an existing relationship with the audience due to extensive (for Roger) or intense TV interest.

But - as ever! - TP's response is closest to the truth. Roger was very much part of the old "studio" system. He was a film star in the mould of his heroes (and friends), like Niven, Stewart Grainger, Gregory Peck et al. He was part of the Hollywood system through chance and then choice and he was interested in being an entertainer and a star, not an intense, Oscar-chasing actor.

And as his career overlapped with the end of that studio system there's nothing similar to allow anyone else to come along in that ilk.

So let's just enjoy what we got
