Casino Royale - Seamaster as a knuckle duster

Saw this on a watch forum and its the first ive seen or heard of it??

During the Venice scene, 007 takes off his Seamaster and uses it as a knuckle duster in true Fleming style.

Im guessing this has been well covered and I missed this over the years?

Yes, a rubber watch was made so Craig could reenact the scene from the novel
Ohmss when Bond uses his Rolex as a knuckle duster. I guess they thought it
Might have been too violent ?

Check out Donk's modest collection thread. He has that stunt rubber Seamaster used in the cut scene. We were discussing it only a few weeks back.

The piece from which you're linking the above images credits Donk with the discovery:

Really cool, although the actual idea of using a watch as a knuckle duster is a terrible idea, would break your fingers in seconds. Awesome that Donk has the rubber watch from the scene.

Welshboy, the original link is the first thing that was put in the thread of the watch forum you're refering to.

There were two threads about it on that watch forum. One of them provides a link, but it also just posted all the pics from the site that put up the piece, so Welsh probably is talking about that thread.

I posted it in the Watch forum after someone had posted it in the Alt.Jamesbond group on Facebook. Pretty cool discovery. Thanks "Donk"!

Totally agreed. This was a very silly idea of Fleming's in the first place and I am glad someone had the sense to delete this from the final cut, absolutely ridiculous and totally impractical. How it was even filmed is worrying. Good little known film tale though.

    Thanks for bringing this up Welshie. Will give me something to read when bored in my meeting tomorrow. -{

Now it all makes sense. In the scene where he is giving Vesper CPR he has no watch on. I always wondered what happened to his Omega Seamaster... Wonder if this scene will ever get leaked...

One of the reasons I never leave the house without my lucky Grandfather clock.
It always gives me the edge in a fight. ;)

Trust me if your life is in threat you will use anything that gives you the edge.
Bond often does if you watch his fight scenes - he seldom wants the other guy to get up and say 'ouch that smarts a bit'

If they go down you want them to stay down

    Cheers :007)

Interesting topic, thought using your watch as a knuckle duster is the quickest way to break your own hand :D, be better off throwing it at your opponent, he'll either lose some teeth with a well aimed shot or catch it and run off with it.
Seriously though, bond should use his elbows and palms a bit more.
It was either that.....or the priesthood

Definitely need to rewatch that Venice fight scene now..

This would also explain how his watch isn't on his wrist when he dived into the water to rescue Vesper and also when he was trying to revive her...

There's no real scene to leak, as it's all in the film - just a few frames trimmed to take the focus off what he'd done with the watch:

Yeah. It was cut out. An extended cut of the fight scene as a bonus on a future bluray release would be interesting.

You can still see it in the film. But its a blink and you miss kind of thing

Its funny, I have always thought it would be an absolute violent weapon to used my watch as a knuckle duster. Never thought anyone else thought of it to tell you the truth ;%

I knew that when he is underwater he removed his Seamaster, now I know why. Very interesting, shame to see a beautiful watch be "destroyed" that way, and it explains why he suddenly switched to the Planet Ocean in the next movie. Must've stopped by an Omega boutique before he went to White :)) . Moore could've used this trick with his Seikos. At least they wouldn't break and even if they did, it wouldn't cost an arm and a leg to replace them.
Cheers on this very interesting trivia -{ !
