As a Brit friend once said to me, "This is the day we celebrate getting rid of you lot!" So Happy Independence Day on both sides of the Atlantic!

Yes, I celebrate our luck today. As Al Murray said we knew the way that they were going to turn out and decided we'd be better off without them! :))

Only joking, our American cousins! :p

An English friend sent this to me and I just had to share.....I remember an English actor named Robert Morley saying, "Well, at least it took good English stock to throw us out."

I loved my time in England and I want to get back soon for a longer visit....

Without going into too much detail about independence day ,the main reason this war kicked off in the 1st place ,was the greedy British govt wanted to much tax to be paid on crops (tobacco ect ) I think by the Virginians ,who were Scottish ? who promptly said to the British govt ,go **** yourself ,and hence the war stated .Now the British govt wanting too muckmuch tax on tobacco ,sounds familiar :D (That was a short version of the American war of independence crammed into 2 lines by yours truly) :))

Probably the start of it was the French and Indian War. . .when, for the first time, British troops were housed in peoples' homes without so much as a by-your-leave, and ESPECIALLY because after the war the British government said, "Too bad, colonials, now you have to pay for it"--and proceeded to levy taxes. That the colonials were not allowed a voice in Parliament to protest or debate this was just icing on the proverb.
