I give this another go. I love rankings, definitely.

After watching almost all of the films this year I'd say it looks something like this:

    1 TSWLM
    2 TND
    3 TLD
    4 OHMSS
    5 GF
    6 TWINE
    7 OP
    8 GE
    9 SP
    10 DAD

PTS I don't care for much are FRWL, TB, LALD, CR, QOS, SF

I love the PTS's of the Bond films. They are one of the many, many reasons that make these films so special to me. To choose my favourites is no easy task but in no particular order here goes....
OP : This has everything I want in a PTS - Adventure, humour, beautiful women, amazing stuntwork and a fake horses bum, ahem anyway moving on......
GF : I used to think Bond's introduction in DN was the coolest moment in a Bond film but when Connery looks at his watch before the explosion - effortlessly cool. Also when Barry's theme tune kicks in always makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up... That reminds me, I need a haircut...
TWINE : I could choose any of the Brosnan PTS's they are all like mini films in their own right and all brilliant. I went for TWINE simply for the exciting Thames boat chase and I love the way the falling Bond segues into the titles, class.
TLD : Perfect introduction for Dalton. This is exciting stuff with Bond clinging on to the roof of a speeding jeep in Gibraltar. For me better than Dalton's other PTS in LTK.
TSWLM : Bond skiing off a cliff face and the opening of the Union Jack parachute while the Bond theme kicks in is very hard to beat. Awesome.

Honourable mentions : MR, SP, TND, DAD, TMWTGG.

    @The Wicker Man

Absolutely, the Brosnan PTS's are like mini-movies. Nowadays that would be called webisodes :))

Always amazed how great EON did in the Brosnan era with the PTS.

    Nice topic

I can't do a full run down, too many that I don't like. Basically for me, if a PTS goes over 6 or so minutes it is no longer a PTS and really ought to be in the movie proper. These should be teaser sequences not the first scene of the adventure...

    1. TSWLM
    2. TB
    3. MR
    4. OP
    5. CR

Wow this will be fun- here goes:

    1. GOLDFINGER
    2. THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS
    3. OCTOPUSSY
    4. THE SPY WHO LOVED ME
    5. GOLDENEYE
    7. MOONRAKER
    8. LICENCE TO KILL
    9. OHMSS
    10. A VIEW TO A KILL
    11. FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE
    12. TOMORROW NEVER DIES
    13. DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER
    14. FOR YOUR EYES ONLY
    15. THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH
    16. DIE ANOTHER DAY
    17. SPECTRE
    18. YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE
    19. THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN
    20. LIVE AND LET DIE
    21. CASINO ROYALE
    22. SKYFALL
    23. QUANTUM OF SOLACE

Interesting revelations here. Discovering I prefer the mini movie PTS openings, and was amazed how high I rank some of the less popular ones. I guess California Girls must not bother me so much when the gunbarrel opens on that amazing Iceland shot of the helicopter. In addition, PTS's without the gunbarrel fall dead last. Inexcusable. Even tampering with it' a'la CR is a no no IMO. I do like the black and white opening, though. However, Bond's first kills as described in the novel were far more interesting to me. Also the CR PTS completely wastes the opportunity to give Craig an interesting first shot of him as Bond. He's just sort of sitting there off to the side. I ask you, what's more iconic, THAT or say, Dalton's first shot?

I'm pretty much there with you on all of this! But I have to put YOLT much higher because of the spacecraft abduction. The music is one of Barry's best pieces, and that makes the PTS one of the best.

Excellent point. Barry's score is very iconic and memorable in that scene. I also really like the gunbarrel arrangement.

The model work was quite impressive (especially on the big screen in 35mm). I recall an awful ABC Sunday Night Movie edit of the PTS that cut from the opening shot of the rocket to the final shot of Sean in the bed as it segues in to the credits. Why would they do that? Completely random edit.

I don't think the gunbarrel (or lack of/misplacement) should be used in the assessment and ranking of PTS's.

It really seems illogical to rank some excellent scenes dead last just because they don't feature something that has no relevance to the scene itself; the gunbarrels are more like a PPTS.

    Thank you.
    Finally. {[] {[] {[]
She's just a girl who stopped her car and gone for a quick dip. Why is that suspicious?
She gets knocked out, even if her head wasn't in the water.
Don't get me wrong, I love Tracy but damn that's a bad introduction.
