To get us away from endless endless ratings threads...a new topic?
I saw The Man With the Golden Gun at the cinema
It was a double entry with Live and let Die, and I enjoyed every minute of it. Part of the attraction was the setting. Hong Kong and Bangkok. Two areas not used much for films and TV. People were starting to travel - they were going to Spain or Portugal or nipping across the Atlantic to Florida but we had never seen anything like Kao-Ping-Shan on the big screen
It screamed the Orient. i know now they are called karsts. Huge pitons are limestone jutting out of the water complete with beaches and mushroom shaped rocks. The Bond producers took us to a place where no one had ever been to. The actual karsts looked alien. Like something from a different planet. Every shot looked good. The shot of Bond flying his seaplane over them looked stunning with john Barrys music
So have you been there? Would you when you have enough money try and go there. i visited Phang Na Bay in '98 but run out of time so couldn't get there. i had 24 hours to leave. But I would go back...

It's truly a magic place - though extremely crowded during the summer.

Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
8-)
Phuket had several of the open air type bars that Bond was frequenting in Skyfall. Most of theses had VCRs running (still pretty new technology at the time) and I saw two that were showing Bond films. Both were showing Goldfinger.
