Fans influence on the films

Is Bond one of the few franchises that are always trying to please fans? I know every franchise does this, but Bond is one of the few that actually has effort put into it. I bring this up because of the use of the OHMSS theme in the SPECTRE trailer. To someone watching the trailer with no know, edge of the films, that's just another piece of music, and the people who mad Ethan trailer know that. But they know it will please fans. Are there any other instances like this in the films or the trailers or anything like that?

That's what tends to happen in the entertainment business.

Many Bond fans particularly come with a checklist of specific things they want (or else it isn't a Bond movie).

    ( ) Sexy women
    ( ) Bond getting p***y
    ( ) Awesome gadgets!
    ( ) Crazy villain
( ) Henchman made of metal
    ( ) Bond... James Bond!
( ) Martini... shaken not stirred
    ( ) Fast cars
    ( ) Signature one-liner humor
    and so on...

I feel like this sometimes stifles creativity and a "just surprise me" attitude would be better.

    That's an extreme example. Lol.

How can something truly realize its artistic potential if it has to meet a concrete list of standards?

Well have they listened to is recently??

In the past DCs films have had the following complaints:

    1) No gunbarrel opening
    2) Poor with the ladies
    3) Lack of gadgets
    4) Lack of Bond themes
    5) No Snow missions

Maybe Mendes and co have listened of late as we are def getting a lot of the above in SPECTRE (finally)

Fleming had a pretty much set formula as well as EON. IF you looking for something really arty then Bond is not for you

The hardest thing to find is a winning formula, the easiest thing
is to mess it about and lose that magic formula. ;)

Only with SPECTRE they have definitely created a films for fans...they would not have included the OHMSS theme, amongst other things, otherwise. Lots of things reminiscent to previous films yet are fresh and new (the DotD parade is one example).

DAD is arguably in the same boat in the references but that was a lazy way and more an acknowledgement to the past due to the anniversary.

If they frequent the forums their heads would explode because everyone has conflicting opinions. Just the argument about where the gunbarrel should be made my head explode

I'm not really sure if the fans have had really that much influence in Bond.

To some extent they have, because if they delineate too far from what the fans want then it's going to backfire them. But they also haven't, since we have to remember that Daniel Craig was seen as a bad choice for Bond by almost everyone except Barbara Broccoli. Imagine if they would have listened to the fans, we would have gotten Clive Owen, and perhaps the story would be very different nowadays (which is why I doubt and really hope that Idris Elba is not the next Bond).

Moonraker and Die Another Day where at the time the highest grossing films of the franchise (unadjusted to inflation) before Casino Royale, and yet in the next feature they brought Bond back to reality in a sense. Why? Maybe it's fan influence but it's more likely to be simply a story logistic problem: In Moonraker, where can you go from a story set in space? If you have Bond fighting Aliens, then it's no longer Bond, and you have to bring the film back to a simpler setting. With Die Another Day, you could say that the plot and the tone of the film simply didn't fit what had transpired that year with 9/11. The world had changed, so you needed a more serious and not so campy Bond.

I think the biggest nod to pleasing the fans was UAs decision to bring in Sean Connery for Diamonds Are Forever.
