A question for whisky aficionados

I was trying to find my answer over the Internet, hoerbrt without any success (probably because I wasn't very persistent since I thought asking it on ajb007 will be faster and better!). I'm still a young fellow (I'm 24 since July) and since I was pretty much a craft beer lover I thought I might start my journey with whisky - which is naturally far more expensive so it started with the lower shelf - Ballantines Finest for instance.
One of the first questions that really popped into my head was: why is Bond drinking his Macallan out of a shot glass? It's not the first time I saw it also, there were a few occasions where I saw people drinking whisky out of shot glasses instead of tumblers. Since the alkohol is very strong, like vodka, and I can barely take a sip of it from a tumbler I'm wondering how that's even possible, I might puke right afterwards if I took a shot of Ballantines! So I guess the Maccallan has to be softer in some way?
Anyway, there are at least a few whisky experts over here so I'm counting on you! Educate the young gentlemen please! )

Oh I completely forgot about that thread! I even took part in it, bugger. Anyway - the question remains still unanswered
