FYEO Mountain Climbing

One of the best scenes in FYEO. And a lot of that has to do with the fact that there is no music during it. It makes a big difference. Anyone agree?

" I don't listen to hip hop!"
Keeps the tension up, right until the end.

The sounds of the hammering and Moore's groans add suspense that music would only take away. I don't know if it was Conti's or Glen's idea not to use music. The lack of music makes it seem more realistic. It must be hard to know when to use suspense music and not use music at all. The laser table scene in Goldfinger is helped so much by the music, but that's probably because no action is happening. The Gumbold's safe music really helps the suspense in that scene, otherwise the return of Gumbold wouldn't really seem as threatening.
And I agree the lack of music adds tremendously to the tension of the scene. Similarly the lack of music helps the ski/parachute jump in the PTS of TSWLM to create tension, before the chute opens and that glorious music kicks in. It is a skill in itself to know when music will help a scene or if silence is golden. To have silence during the mountain climb proved to be a brilliant decision. -{
