A Couple TWINE Bilbao Knick Knacks - Glasses & Cigar Tube

Not having the wallet or the storage space of many of my fellow board members I've had to be satisfied with collecting the occasional smaller item. By sheer chance a couple recent acquisitions relate to the Bilbao scene from The World Is Not Enough's pre-credit sequence.

If only the cigar tube contained an actual Cuban cigar, although I've read that Romeo y Julieta's Dominican offerings are often superior.

I'd have also preferred a slightly darker color to the tortoise shell Calvin Klein frames.

Overall I am happy with them. Still deciding whether to add lenses to the frames.

Edited to add: My topic is putting the picture in my head of Bilbo Baggins fom Lord of the rings and Knick Knack from TMWTGG.

Cool items, especially the spectacles - I've been after a pair of these for years on and off - what's the item code on these and where did you get them?

However did you find the TWINE frames so long after production? My understanding was that Calvin Klein discontinued all the Bond items pretty fast, especially the film's CK007 model of blue-lens glasses, owing to piracy. Could never think the CK007s or the spectacles myself.

The specs are Calvin Klein 718. The color code is I believe 034, but I don't think CK uses the same codes for color as they did in the past. Some 034s today seem to be more of a uniform brown while tortoise has the code 216. I think. Trying to decipher the CK codes is more difficult than Persol or Tom Ford.

I just kind of lucked into the glasses. The woman who owned them bought them quite a while ago. Apparently some retailers classified them as women's frames.

How much did the CK glasses go for back in 1999?

so these are the same, please tell us how you "lucked into them"
Congrats, I'd love to own them, too! :))

I managed to get a pair of the ck sunglasses at the time of the film, but never managed to track down the specs. Just something about them that really suited Brosnan. I'm now looking to get some reading specs after years of deteriorating vision, so if I could get a pair like these I'd be well pleased!

Bumping the old tread to muse and maybe vent a bit.

I thought I had managed to track down another pair of CK glasses frames, NOS, albeit in the wrong color. Unfortunately, the optometrist's catalog was out of date and their supplier was out of stock. Like my pair, the frames were the 51mm. There may have also been a 49mm size at one time.

My plan was to offer the wrong colored frames to someone who could use it as a template to make Bilbao replicas, should the demand have been there.

I know...the thrill of the hunt.

WWD's glasses are very very similar, but not the ones worn on screen. They are womens glasses. The glasses Brozza wears have a larger frame and are different as the screen used end/hinge pieces don't flow from the frame but are more angled with the pin being slightly more centred. It's the correct model, but the womens version.

Quite possible Asp9mm. As I stated they are the 718 034, and not the 718f that others state are the SA pair, and the previous owner was a woman. Still, they are the closest I've ever found to the Bilbao and do for a display version, especially since I got it inexpensively.

You wouldn't happen to have a SA pair would you? Do you know the size of the frames Brosnan wore? 51mm plastic frames look big on my face (I was looking at 51mm Persol and Tom Ford eyeglasses a few weeks ago - using my eye insurance before year end). Anything bigger would look way too over-sized on me.

I don't have any anymore, I sold my Brozza collection in 2005. I do know Brozza has a big head though, much bigger than Craig's. His glasses never fit me and Craig's sizes do.

I've seen the womens version in another collection next to the male and it only takes some skill with a dremel to make them 98% screen accurate and reduce that curved frame.

Thanks, Asp. True on Brosnan's head...the Persols from DAD are way too wide for me. As for Craig's, if they look small on him they'd be about the right size for be. I'm now thinking the 714f were 53-55mm? I do know someone quite skilled with a Dremel, I'll see whether he feels confident reshaping the frame around the hinges and maybe removing some of the CK branding.
