For the SPECTRE book in concern I can speak to the provenance of it. Less than 10 of these were made for select crew members responsible for the overall visual vibe of SPECTRE.

Pulling this back on track ...

Again, do we have reason to believe that the book itself may have been faked? Is there particular characteristic that could be used to determine whether or not one is genuine?

I have had reservations regarding this seller for several years. His wares are always advertised as either genuine, screen used or screen seen. His starting prices are ridiculously low, first warning bell, he appears to have and inexaustible supply of the same items, second warning bell. The items that he has for sale or has sold in the past would normally be under Meg's lock and key, third warning bell. If I was being cynical I would muse that he probably had access to original items (maybe he has a tunnel dug into the EON Acrchive) and has photocopied them. I am not the first to question this, I know our own MicroJiff has the same concerns.

This could easily be cleared up by the seller coming forward and giving provenance to his wares. He has been questioned in the past and has said he wants to bring 'genuine' props to the general public at reasonable prices. I would be happy to be proved wrong and if so would buy a lot from him but at the moment the hairs on the back of my neck are standing on end. :#

I am ukreenactors2003 and once again I have been informed by a customer of mine that I am being talked about on a forum.
This will be the last time I am coming on here to explain myself! I am fed up with people making allegations about me and the items I sell as most people do not know what they are talking about and have never been near a film set, actors or crew. Nobody has the decency to contact me direct and instead sit behind their computers talking rubbish and without asking questions to the person who's reputation they are tarnishing!! My brother used to have his own website but then was offered a great opportunity to work in the industry along side the actors and did not close his site because of anything to do with hiding from EON as I have read on here, so people should get their facts straight before slinging mud. He was merely given a great opportunity. All the items I sell are genuine and legal, my brother had really good contacts from his website days and he still does, as do I. Bond was his passion and so anything Bond he could get from his contacts he would buy, some of it in bulk. I start my prices low to get interest and most of the time at the price I pay but sometimes I lose out and that is the way it goes. I always tell people when they ask that if they do not believe it is genuine then do not buy it!! With the Spectre crew items, they were put down in front of the catering vehicles for crew to take and some crew know their value online and just take as much as they can fit in their van and that is the truth of it hence the many, many messages I have had from crew stating that they missed out and if anyone does know someone who worked on it then they can verify this. Now onto items with the old logo, early construction crew were issued with items bearing the old logo and this was verified to me by someone I know who worked on Spectre! Lastly, the mask I purchased on my ebay account was to replace one for a contact of mine who was selling me one he got from filming but had given to his wife and he said I had to get her another to go on the wall or she would not let me have it as she was not bothered by the fact it was a used Spectre prop but wanted it purely as decoration and in return was getting another mask and some money to go shopping!! I should not have to come on here defending my self and am a genuine guy, so in future if anyone has anything to ask please contact me directly instead of sitting behind a computer speaking to everyone else about it.
    Many thanks

I know most of the people - that rose these accusations against you - in person and I can assure you that these folks know their stuff.
Many of them have been on 007 sets in a way that you and me could only dream of!

You should take their concerns a bit more seriously, we are speaking about high-profile 007 nuts here ;)

Well, intentionally or nor not, the fact that I have been quoted in RichiRichStar/UKReenactors2003/Richard Knights post above, conveys to me the right to reply, publicly. Perhaps the seller would like to point out exactly where I've made any defamatory allegations? I have merely questioned, logically, the fears of many. I don't see the need to take this to PMs as this website is there to inform all fans/collectors/prop makers and the only way we can learn is to share info. Yes, I have indentified props in the past, where nobody else has (eg D9, The Pysis, The AVTAK tracker) and I have kept that information to a tight circle of friends until they have obtained an example at a reasonable price before releasing the information out to a wider audience. This I call loyalty, as others have shared info with me in the past with a confidential caveat, I share with them on the same basis.

I merely openly question the provenance of pieces, not just from this seller but for others too. If the seller in question doesn't like that then it says more about him than me. Just a thought.

I've learnt a lot from quite a few members regarding props.

As it is, EON tightened sets beginning with CR extremely well.
Before that basically noone controlled members of staff, if they took something with them or not. So consequently, noone really cared if props "grew feet" and found their way to the collector's market.

That has all changed with CR and collectors must be very careful about the provenance of items to avoid buying things which have been basically stolen from set and still are EON's property with all legal consequences.

So one can't be careful enough - it's a minefield!

Not specifying a specific seller here as have not taken too close a look - however a quick look on eBay and its hard not to notice that there are multiple / never ending production sheets etc of the same old thing which are surely colour photocopies and not the "original" papers.

I dont doubt the authenticity of the content but the sheer amount of them smells fishy

Prop buying is a minefield...let's get that out of the way straight away :s

As I've previously mentioned I used to deal regularly with Steve Knight of Rareprops, every two to three years in fact :D
Steve was able to source/supply some incredible pieces, sometimes at a premium but they were 100% genuine, sometimes straight off set a day or two previous so you had to wait till the movie came out to know for sure. I have only ever questioned the authenticity of one item & Steve made it right. After Steve went dark I purchased Pieces which I knew originated from Steve from his brother Richard & these were Rareprops pieces or pieces from Steve's private collection.

As for printed items, most come from digital files and are therefore printed in high volume which does not make them fake but to a purist perhaps it does not make them 100% correct either as production may use different stock? I have no true knowledge on the subject....It's a minefield!

I have just purchased a Moonraker patch off evilbay. The seller claims it is original but I was the only bidder securing it for half for what I believe to be its true value. I've always wanted one. The seller listed it as 5" in diameter, the screen props were a little over 4.5". Most reproductions are embroidered, the screen props were silk screen printed. The reproductions also get the colours wrong as yellows are actually closer to an orange brown. I may have just blown £200 but Donkey's gut says otherwise.

    The message dear AJBers is know your subject. If you think something is wrong? walk away or consult this forum for advice -{

I've spoken to the concept artist that worked on SKYFALL and SPECTRE, as well as a few others about items being offered on Ebay. They confirmed in no uncertain terms, that their work (particularly weapons and gadget concept art) being offered as 'genuine production' on ebay, was a direct rip off from their website and copies made from public available images. Items were all mass photocopied reproductions being repeatedly offered ad infinitum. They have reported it to MGM. And this is a direct quote from an email I got off him...

"~~~~~~~ is also producing fake crew items, t-shirts, graphics sheets, logos and prints that have nothing to do with the films…"

But moving away from Ebay, I've been inundated with requests about a seller offering Tom Ford screen used DC suits. Be very careful if one is offered to you. They are genuine Tom Ford suits, but the label stitched inside indicating it was supplied to the production for DC is fake. And it is a very good fake too. But there are at least 20 of these knocking around as far as I know, possibly more. Caveat Emptor.

Forgot to add that the most notorious of these sellers also do offer genuine items, but they are mixed liberally with a load of shoddy goods too, which makes things even more difficult for the buyer who builds up a relationship with them after buying those genuine items. The most notorious of these sellers doesn't operate on Ebay anymore but lurks on Facebook and contacts people they think they can squeeze money out of from forums such as this.

There is currently a "screen-used" CR Miami airport police shirt listed as "identical" to that worn by "Carlos" which even a cursory glance proves to be completely false.

And while not from UKreenactors, I have established (by speaking directly with Meg Simmonds) that the SPECTRE concept book -- and all similar volumes -- are emphatically fake; no such books were ever issued by EON.
