I sold one (used and read) on eBay a couple of years ago. Got $30 for it.

    Good for you ;)

But this 22-year old book looks like it was only bought yesterday, that is reflected in the price for serious collectors only.

As I am selling these items for a good friend and collector, I don't choose the prices, but I'm sure he's willing to consider serious offers.

    Cheers.

    Interesting....

Registered 4 days ago, 6 posts - 5 different items to sell (at least one for a silly price) and all those "for a friend"?

May I ask, what the purpose of your stay with AJB is?

For that price I would expect it to be signed by Dave Worral ...... In blood.

It's not even the hardback 1st edition :#

Hardback firsts were signed by Worrall, right? (though obviously not in his blood!) And Graham Rye?

Yeah, pretty sure my hardback is signed by both of them.

The paperback version was also signed by Dave Worrall or at least the first 500 copies.

I visit often but don't post much and agree with
Higgins. Someone out of the blue joins to sell items
with no history on AJB ?
What makes you think this is my first time?

    You couldn't be any wronger!!!

I've reported squad's offer now and let the mods decide what they want to do.

First of all, this is a discussion board and not a sales forum. Ebay is for that!
Secondly, buying expensive collectibles from someone with no transaction histories is very dangerous!
Additionally if something goes wrong, he'll blame his "friend" and would not stand behind the items that he has to sell.

Additionally selling something which is not even in his possession would result in an immediate ban on other fora.

One asks, why the "friend" does not register here and sell his stuff directly.
Would still be a total stranger here with no history, but at least the third party thing would be avoided.

Well said Higgins , The reason I love this site is for those above reasons.
If we had no one to watch this , things would get way out of hand

    1. hes not the only one selling items here
    2. how do you know they are not in his possession ?
    3. maybe his friend is old or not computer savvy ?
    4. im sure there are ways of talking to the person and gathering information on items before considering purchasing.
maybe i just feel you were a little bit harsh putting up a laughing smilie at someone new
(regardless of whether or not you were interested in buying said items)

Yes, but most of them participate with discussions and/or have the manners to introduce themselfs.
Additionally, they are selling their own items.

    Because he said it!

But still he offers items here which are not his property.

Having not been a member here for too long, but lurked longer and also been a member of a number of other discussion and collecting forums, I have to say I have definitely noticed AJB gets more than its fair share of new 'members' appearing, advertising stuff they want to sell and then disappearing.

Judging by the jaded 'welcome' these people get, I would assume this has being going on for a long time and many members here seem quite fed up with such activity.

One therefore for the Moderators here to consider:

    1. Have a separate 'For Sale' sub forum.
    2. Only enable people to post in that forum to sell items once they have achieved a specified post count - say 100 posts (possibly too low) - thereby ensuring their active participation in the board community before they start selling stuff. This also enables people to judge the 'character' of the member and inform their decision making as to whether they want to buy from them.
    3. Immediately 'Close' all new message threads and posts from members selling items without the requisite post count. Ban repeat offenders.

This has worked successfully on other collector community forums to my knowledge.

Yes...this does seem to happen...the 'jaded' welcome could be put down to people asking 'silly' money for items...plus I wouldn't part with a brass farthing on here UNLESS it's to someone I trust...please remember that AJB does not guarantee ANY item advertised on here...

1: Not going to happen - we don't want too many forums...it spoils the 'flow' of the site - plus SiCo can't be arsed to do it :))

2: If you have a 'minimum post count' then you will either get people posting one word replies - just to get their post count up OR people from AJB could miss out on a great item...it's a tough call...

3: Seems a tad harsh...could lead to new members 'asking' what their 'item' is worth in such a way as to basically say it's for sale...then it all gets messy...

Obviously AJB doesn't want to see its members ripped off or cheated...and we always advise extreme caution when dealing with new members who try and sell stuff...fortunately Higgins is on the case most of the time and he alerts either myself or the other MODS when he's not happy...

I'm going to leave this thread open...mainly for replies - but anyone can contact any MOD via PM if they'd rather talk in private about this or other matters...

    The book for sale is a great book but, in my opinion, not worth the fee quoted...still, it's not my place to tell someone they can't buy it or negotiate for it... -{
