PROPS WANTED FOR BBC BOND DOCUMENTARY: replica golden gun/jaws teeth

Hello!

I'm a researcher working on a new BBC Four documentary about James Bond - we'll be taking a look at some of the unseen Bond moments in the BBC archives and telling the story of the evolution of the Bond from Dr No through to Spectre.

We need to get hold of some of the replica props made by Factory Entertainment to do a bit of filming and I'm posting in this forum to ask if any of you have, or know someone who has the Golden Gun, the replica Jaws teeth, or the Spectre ring who might consider lending them to us for the purposes of some short filming - unfortunately our very tight BBC budget will not allow us to actually buy them! They would not be used for any reconstruction or action filming - they would just be placed on a table alongside some other 'Bond' style props, so would not incur any damage or rough handling - we would promise to take utmost care of them. As mentioned we don't have much money but we might be able to offer a fee and would of course take care of all transportation - again in the safest possible manner.

If you can help or know of anyone who might be able to please do email me on pamela.mcintyre@bbc.co.uk - we would be tremendously grateful.

Many many thanks

Pam

Hi Pam, it sounds really interesting. In my humle opinion I think you may have a problem here. I only say this becuase items like the golden gun are fetching over £1000.00 at the moment and there arent many around. When you combine that with the fact that most owners either dont take them out of the box or handle with white gloves etc, its a big ask to send it off the BBC on the proviso that no-one will handle it or mess with it. If I weorked at the BBC and a golden gun turned up, I would be the first to mess with it, might even do a re enaction sort of thing for a laugh. On that basis you may get lucky and find an owner who will trust you and send it off to you but I think most will be to nervous. They dont do spares anymore so if a bit falls off and gets lost like the trigger etc, you cant get spares. Also they are very brittle and taking them apart MAY affect the trigger screw thread which is very soft. In fact handling them at all is a bit of a no no given the thin coat of gold plate that they carry. Good luck though as you may get someone with a tatty one that isnt so cautious. As for the ring and the jaws teeth they are less brittle and precious. There are also the other FE items such as trackers and breathers / tarot cards etc to consider.

The last time I loaned something to the BBC it was returned broken and before that the items were not very well looked after at all. Trying to get it all sorted was impossible. Never again.

    Pam

And I seriously doubt many would sell to be honest

Given some honest opinions posted above and how seriously collectors of this kit take their collections (maybe that's a series in itself great Bond Collections). I would say you may achieve your desired end state if rather then blindly posting their pride and joy too you, that you invite them down to the filming to babysit their pride and joy and learn more about production or the programme as a sweatner. I own quiet a few Bond Omegas and clothing etc but realistically I would not post £15k worth of watches or other kit blindly to anyone (if you see what I mean not even the BBC). This is more than just collecting it's a labour of love for some (maybe most)

I am sure some here would be happy to help without payment if something like the above was offered by way of a trade. Genuinely it sounds interesting of course timed with the forthcoming release of Spectre.

    Good luck!

    Cheers

P.s It goes without saying Clarkson was a prat but binning him was a bad move and a female Doctor is unfortunately a No No - but I will give you Eastenders as it keeps my wife and daughter occupied whilst I can chillax with AJB :))

Pam, have you reached out to Factory Entertainment? I'm sure they'd be glad to have in a camera operator to provide you with HD video of each of their replicas. Additionally there are some here who would be happy to provide you with prop and prop replica video footage from their homes. I'm happy to do so.
