Bondmania

I grew up in a tiny town in Upstate NY, and around the time of the 60's Bondmania, I was totally oblivious. I only knew of the Batmania (I had the lunchboxes, the model of the Batmobile, the costume AND the big Batmobile you could ride in). What was Bondmania like back then?
I remember a buzz about Conery coming back for DAF, some hoopla over TSWLM, and a pretty big surge of interest for GE & then again for CR, but I missed out on the really crazy stuff...

I was born in the mid 50's and saw all the movies in the cinema. GF was big news and the Corgi car sold many thousands but it was not until TB that I really remember any huge media interest. That movie was absolutely massive and Bond was everywhere on TV and in the press. I remember collecting the bubblegum cards and having the Largo vs Bond board game - both of which I have just found while clearing out my spare room!

Connery going and Lazenby being selected was big news and I remember a news article with Lazenby having a fight in a bar with Oliver Reed - our man won Also reports of on set problems with Lazenby and Diana Rigg were big news.

I mostly remember all the merchandise based on each film that was around - everything from shaving lotion to books, magazines, cufflinks, gum cards - a lot of which I happily collected.

The 60's was a great time to grow up as a kid and Bond was a big part of it.

When I finally saw GF in a revival triple feature, I didn't get the "Beatles without earmuffs" line because that was a whole other 'mania' I missed out on. 8-)
