saw the film on Tuesday at the IMAX and I must say I walked out of the theater with a "meh" feeling unlike the "wow" feeling i got after SF. not in a hurry to see it again but at the moment I think its probably Craigs 3rd Best film after CR and SF. It was a bit jarring to see how humorous he was, almost as if he wasn't the same character as the previous 3 films. and Waltz was nowhere near the menace of Silva, he felt way underused.

Thought the CGI was some of the worst of the series and my daughter who saw it with me commented that some of the helicopter CGI looked like 1960's backdrop :(

The worst in the series was Pierce Brosnan ice surfing in DAD.... I must say i did not have a problem with it. When I saw skyfall for the first time it was shameful to see the CGI with daniel craig on the motor on the istanbul rooftop, I did not have that watching spectre.

I think this whole CGI thing is being overcriticised

Thinking about it now, it felt as though it was a film trying to be a Bond film, mixing classic Bond with modern Bond, and it didn't have that soul that other Bond films have. It just sort of felt.....empty, it didn't feel like as much heart went into it, compared to SF or CR.

Rather like the Brosnan efforts. Just what "soul" did Die another Day have?

The reason why DAD is considered the weakest of Brosnan movies is only because the others were so good!

How old were you when you saw DAD?

Oh, we had a sex scene with Monica. ... I mean, really, does she actually do the deed then put back on all her negligee?

Umm Nap, I think that was her basque and suspenders, I don't think Monica needed to take them off for what she had in mind :o . One of the film's many highlights :D :007) :))

We are all glad about that. Agreed, very fine post from NP. My post Bond euphoria is settling down now and I feel pretty similar about it. Still enjoyed it a great deal and will see it again in a few days.

I fail to see the reasoning of "no evil plan". Seriously? When it comes to world domination, that is about the most perfect 'evil' plan you could get.

I will watch again next week, but for me the evil plan wasn't very evil. But maybe it's because of the weak Blofeld performance.

I saw it last night, and as a Bond fan I'm hard pressed to dislike any Bond movie, (even re watching DAD, I think it kind of worked up until the invisible AM , at which point it Bombed). But a friend of mine, who certainly isn't a Bond fan, and trends to give me grief for being so also saw it, and he said I quote 'it's brilliant, proper Bond Movie!'
So no over analysis, just a regular punter loving the film, now that's the best kind of review I think!

On another subject, I want Bonds ski Jacket for winter!!!

Still replaying Spectre in my head 48hrs after seeing it. Of all the positives though, why do the scenes that I feel don't work keep recurring?
The opening sequence is excellent, vast in scale, and leads into the first visual gag with the sofa, reminiscent I thought of Connery sliding down the metal chute and being dumped unceremoniously in the leather chair in YOLT. It sort of set the tone for the kind of humour that would follow, particularly the car chase scene and the air bag. Nice little touches.
The meeting of the syndicate offered some genuine palpable tension, and the silent pauses in dialogue really worked to create unnerving menace.
However the 'seduction' scene with Bellucci was contrived and did not work at all.
Again, the train fight, as brutal as it was and with Bond being in genuine peril, ends with a ridiculous comment by Hinx, and akin to cartoons where they are suspended in mid air prior to realising the ground is no longer beneath them.
The scene concludes with Bond and Swann sayin "what are we going to do now?"...again, just doesn't work for me.

I'm confused as to where this film either leaves or takes us. If Craig returns, does it mean we get another 'top 'trumps' action movie, or can they change direction again?

I'll certainly watch Spectre again, and enjoy it for what it is, an action movie.

I used to walk away from Bond movies believing that I was James Bond, now I'm just not sure who I am anymore.

I think the issue with the 4th act of Spectre is as one AJBer has already mentioned Blofeld's torture of Bond does not work. He was destroying the memory centers of Bond's brain as a final kick in the nads to his adopted brother which did not work...why? It is too Dr Evil leaving us waiting for a malfunctioning electric chair or "sharks with fricking laser beams on their heads!" Jumping ahead to the final scene "I thought you'd left".."I have". Bond has left MI6 with Swann in the Aston....The End? Unless the next installment does a Casino Royale & everything prior to the event did not happen? then I think DC's Bond truly has left the building & we are pretty much looking at the end of Return of the Jedi..Emperor dead, Vader dead, Deathstar destroyed..End of Trilogy! or another analogy...end of The Empire Strikes Back as you certainly did not leave the movie theatre on a high after that ending with a perhaps 3 year wait ahead? :(

Milton's head, yes, I forgot about that.

But the rest you mentioned... no more violent than the head drilling scene or Hinx crushing the eyes IMO

Did anyone else dislike the new surveillance building? I disliked it in the film because it looked fake, and because they used CGI for it instead of a minature on green screen or something.

Thanks, Brosnan rocked in his films. They maybe aren't the best ones, but they're very enjoyable. Just classic Bond adventures. I do understand why some people don't like DAD, but the first three films are really great and fun IMO.

Don't see why that signals the end...'I thought you'd left' could mean on leave, and traditionally Bond always 'gets with the girl', just a twist on 'attempting re-entry!'. Don't see any reason why in the next movie M couldn't be asking Bond how' his vacation was and if he was fully rested...now back to business...'

He clearly left. He had to choose which end of the bridge he was getting off, with M or with Swann. He threw his PPK into the Thames and walked away from M to Swann. It was pretty symbolic. Given that Swann also said if he was to be with her, he'd have to leave his old life, makes it even more obvious. It would be a mistake if he came back now. He left on a high.

    Well he is not! Goldeneye was a classic cold waresque story with the wrong composer but thankfully the right director -{

Tomorrow Never Dies was a great story with a simply brilliant PTS but had a crap villain & a meh love interest

    The World is Not Enough ticked all the right boxes & should have been Brosnan's swan song which would have been apt with it being Desmond's..."Never let them see you bleed" "Always have an escape plan"....sorely missed! -{

Die Another Day was wrong in so many ways but did start off promising but lost the plot in the 4th act much as Spectre did.

Brosnan's movies all had one lazy issue for me: blow up Goldeneye complex, blow up Stealth boat, blow up submarine, blow up aircraft with stoopid energy beam & don't get me going about intact Ferrari & Lamborghini stuck in the mud with their windscreens undamaged X-(

yeah, I get all the symbolism, but I still think it's ambiguous...Swann also said she knew he couldn't change...just because they left together doesn't mean they stay together..it could mean exactlty as you say, but could equally be a tease. I think it would be really easy to bring him back without too much of an issue.

I'm currently watching TND whilst I read this page. And you know what, it's a great feet up and chill out film. I felt Skyfall and Spectre are trying to hard to give us a "message". Sometimes it's good for a film just to be a bit of fun.

Couldn't agree more! :) I think in years to come Spectre will be that film!

I actually thought that when I left the cinema. I feel I'll enjoy Spectre more at home with my feet up. :))
