He clearly left. He had to choose which end of the bridge he was getting off, with M or with Swann. He threw his PPK into the Thames and walked away from M to Swann. It was pretty symbolic. Given that Swann also said if he was to be with her, he'd have to leave his old life, makes it even more obvious. It would be a mistake if he came back now. He left on a high.
If that's te case, wouldn't that mean that even getting another actor to be Bond to continue this storyline would be wrong? The next Bond is, presumably, supposed to be the same person, especially since they've obviously kept Blofeld alive to return in future installments, so even if they got another actor it would still be the same character. This is why Swann needs to die at the start of the next one.

I have a few contacts in the industry and they've all had the same story for months, that he officially quit. As I was avoiding spoilers I took it with a pinch of salt, however it's been confirmed by someone else since. I still have an element of doubt, however these are good sources and they're all adamant.
I'm also in the film industry and know many things are hush hush, especially with things as big as Bond. So your friends are responding to rumour or have broken a massive contract clause

Well, it's no secret a big production shake up is going on. I guess we'll find out after the whole SPECTRE run is over. An official announcement will come soon enough. The film ending certainly backs it up though.
True, it's quite possible Craig will quit, and honestly I think it's time for him to do so. However money talks so we'll see.
This sort of thing is the mother's milk of fan site threads Nothing is certain until Eon announces it...
Whichever way it goes, Bond (regardless of who plays him) will simply be lured out of 'retirement' by circumstances, and the whole wheel begins turning again.

You think Waltz will do another Bond? I find that even more unlikely.
The director, script, financial compensation, etc would have to be enticing, for sure. Waltz certainly doesn't need the Bond franchise. It's a shame Charles Gray is no longer available to step in

The ending of SPECTRE did kind of imply that DC may have left, and I hope that's not the case.
However.... after years of legal battles, they finally brought SPECTRE and Blofeld back... after all these years... It simply wouldn't feel right if DC didn't carry on with a Blofeld-arc, which would consist of the next film or two.
Consider this:
SPECTRE is the first in a Blofeld trilogy.
Blofeld (possibly Waltz, or if not, another actor) returns in Bond 25, still with the scar, and loses his hair at the end.
And in Bond 26, Blofeld, now bald and with the scar, gets defeated at the end of the film.
Then DC's run ends, with 6 films in total.
25 and 26 could even be filmed back-to-back.
The Hildebrand Rarity and The Garden Of Death.
I guess we'll see in time, if I've got ANY of that right...

Yeah, it would be a shame, for sure. It's a chance for Craigger to really do something truly amazing. Your ideas sound good to me! {[] We're fans; dreaming is what we do!

I think he will be back for at least one more... The guy is just grouchy as it was an intense shoot for a year....If he takes a year and a half off and the script and money is right along with Mendes coming back...they could potentially close out the DC Era with a final film.
The problem is if DC leaves then they would need to take a break on the series until a new actor that is suitable for the role comes into the picture...Cavill has too many commitments with Superman, Justice League and other stuff... but guys we really should be celebrating this movie as we have all been giddy about it for a year.
Let time tell if Craig will come back... but for now he is 007 so let's enjoy it or at least while it lasts
The problem wit the Blofeld character here is that it's mostly his origin story, explaining his motivations, who he is etc. If he returns, he'd be able to get straight into the role as Blofeld and he can get straight to executing his evil plan, rather than trying to get revenge on his adopted brother.

That was what was supposed to be Casino Royale for Bond, yet all of Craig's Bond films have focused on his origin story and not on him being Bond.

SPECTRE is awesome on the second viewing. Could be the best Craig film yet, need to see it on blu ray 100 times. It's sublime in places, the Car chase is exceptional second time round.

Dalton was a big one!! :007) The first one I was really conscious of, in the moment, was Connery giving way to Moore. I had to ponder that one for a while.

I will say from the off that I enjoyed SPECTRE, really enjoyed it. It grabbed me by the balls and hardly released it’s grip at all. I saw it twice over two days following the release and both times I left the cinema beaming.
Having had time now to digest it fully three things that have been troubling me. Not enough to spoil the experience but they have been playing on my mind. What follows is going to sound overtly negative but I that is unavoidable and does not represent my feelings as a whole. I will finish with what I would love to see happen at the start of Bond 25 which I think would excite some Bond fans.
First of these is the Blofeld reveal. The film films almost hamstrung by this revelation, what should have been a fantastic return of a classic villain is resigned to a twist that the world has known about for a long time. The producers would have been better served just admitting upfront that Waltz was Blofeld. The sub-plot involving Bond’s adaptive father and step-brother is so undercooked that it feels superfluous. Had the return of Blofeld not been so obvious then this may have added a nice air of mystery to the film but as Blofeld was the worst kept secret in Hollywood history the pay off has no impact at all.
Secondly, some of the action scenes were a little flat, particularly the car chase through Rome. There were some nice moments but as a whole it felt like an advert rather than an impromptu chase between two people wanting to harm each other. The cameras are positioned to show the cars in their best light but the cars should not be the focus here, Bond’s driving should. The older films featured some great chases involving cars that would not necessarily be associated with Bond; A View to a Kill and Octopussy spring to mind. The chase felt a bit sterile as a result. We should have seen one of these cars destroyed and both at least heavily damage.
Thirdly, Mr. Hinx was severely underused. Despite his all to brief appearance, Dave Bautista has created a memorable henchman but I really wanted a final showdown with him at the end of the film. The fight on the train is up there with the best fights in the series for me but to kill him off here was almost criminal. Just as we are getting to see how much of a beast this guy is he gets punked and killed off, albeit in a rather amusing way. Imagine though as Bond is given the countdown to the destruction of the old HQ not only does he have time against him, Mr. Hinx is also pursuing and trying to stop him. Missed opportunity there.
Lastly, the ending. Although it is not definite, the ending strongly hints that this version of Bond is done and the implication that Daniel Craig will not return was pretty strong. If that is the case why then do you set up Blofeld’s return here? They bring back this classic villain and go as far as to keep him alive at the end of the film, surely this implies that he will return. To do this and immediately follow it by waving Daniel Craig off into the sunset was a little jarring. If this is Craig’s last then that ending will be deeply unsatisfying in years to come, perhaps on a par with On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
However, it could be a genius ending if the following happens in the Bond 25 Pre-title sequence:
Bond 25 opens a few months after the events of SPECTRE with Bond and Madeleine Swann marrying (you know where this is going don’t you?!). They drive off to start a new life together, a few miles down the road their car is ambushed and Madeleine is killed. Bond is injured but makes out Blofeld and an unknown woman driving away. Cue credits.
In closing I’d just like to say that I absolutely adore SPECTRE, it currently sits at number 3 in my list of Bond films in order of preference. Time will tell whether it stays there but one thing is for sure, James Bond Will Return.
1- On Her Majesty's Secret Service 2- Casino Royale 3- Licence To Kill 4- Goldeneye 5- From Russia With Love

The only way a sequel to SPECTRE is going to happen is if Blofeld kills Swann and Bond goes after him in a revenge movie. It's been done in Quantum, and is too close to do again. I really can't see it happening. Too similar, too soon. We don't need another Craig goes rogue looking for revenge film, and I don't think EON would do it anyway. Time to go forward...

You haven't even seen the film. I insist - nay demand - that you now give us your review of Spectre. You probably know more about the film than most of us who have seen it, so there can be no excuse for your not posting your thoughts. )
And you can bung in a review of the next movie while you're about it, too!
In short: I thought SPECTRE was a great Bond movie that I enjoyed watching from start to finish!
First of all, I thought it was magical to finally see a Bond movie start with a gunbarrel again. It's not of life importance to me, but it was bitter sweet! The PTS was arguably the best in the entire franchise! Magnificent camera work! The titles by Daniel Kleinman were brilliant too! And even Sam Smith's song (which I was not a fan of) fell nicely together with it and made it all the more powerful!
I also have to say that I thought it was a very traditional Bond movie again. Craig was a very different Bond. Lighter, funnier and full of sarcasm. And still, it was kind of welcome and he made it work. Also great: Ben Wishaw! He was hilarious in this movie! Loved all the scenes with him and Bond!
I really liked Monica Belluci, but it was such a shame that she had such a short role much like Severine in Skyfall. Both actrices were really interesting and didn't get to give their full potential. Shame... Lots of humor in this movie was hilarious, but some of it went a bit into Roger Moore territory: The old man in the Fiat 500, or the way Mr. Hinx is killed (or at least supposedly?) with the whole "****" thing. Perhaps a bit to campy for my taste. I think Lea Seaudoux was great in the role and she had a very interesting character to work with. Christoph Waltz was easily the best Blofeld so far to me. (It barely was a surprise anymore to see he was indeed Blofeld, but it was still great to hear that name in cinema's for the first time!)
The role of Andrew Scott was EXACTLY like I thought it would be. He was good, you started to hate him, which was the point.
I did think the ending was a bit unexpected and extraordinary. Seeing Bond walk off hand in hand with Madalynn was something I had to get used too. Especially since he had already been in love with Vesper, so now he has a new love. But who knows, maybe Swann is the new Tracy? The Bond of the novels after all fell in love with both Vesper and Tracy.
The ending of Bond driving off into the horizon in his DB5 was not really as good of an ending as Skyfall's ending had been. Especially a shame that they just recycled the song when he drove off.
I found myself immediately thinking about 'whats next' for Bond 25 as soon as the credits rolled. Clearly Blofeld has to come back as Bond spared him, and clearly Madalyn Swann has to die in the next one, as Bond can't possibly have a relationship!
I have a lot more to say about the movie, but I did make a video review from it today. For those interested, you can watch it here:
(Also includes some clips from my night itself with a homage to Casino Royale's Dinner jacket scene! :P )
