I've always loved introducing people to films that I am passionate about and of course Bonds fit very much into that category. I've found that people usually respond very well to the films that I show them. I've shown FRWL to many people who are familiar with a number of the Bond films but have never seen that one as it seems to fly under the radar for the casual viewer, I suppose because of its low key tone. And I've found that people are usually surprised by how good it is. They expect everything from the 60s to be cheesy and over-the-top (in the vein of YOLT.) I love seeing people being impressed by the characterisation, style and especially the fight scene on the train.

I had a friend at university who grew up in a very small town in the north of South Africa and he had never been exposed to James Bond. When I explained to him what James Bond was, he thought I was talking about Vin Diesel's xXx! We watched the entire series together over the course of a few months and he really enjoyed it. So much so that 3 years later we did the entire series in a 3 day marathon viewing. Introducing him to Bond was a really satisfying experience. Still, for ages he maintained that Die Another Day is the best Bond film but I eventually managed to persuade him otherwise! :))

Many people I know, that are not really bond fans but like them to some extent and have seen quite a lot of them.... seem to think that AVTAK is one of the best. And this is without them knowing how much I like that movie. Whereas the majority of bond fans rank it low... Do you think there is anything to this? Or just a mad coincidence?

I prefer to watch Bond films alone, free of interruption and comment. I don't watch them as often as I did when I was younger, so it's become quite the spiritual ritual nowadays. B-)

Those outside the Bondiverse simply will never appreciate these films the way we do, and they certainly won't be nearly as forgiving. I refuse to let them dampen my Bond experience.

I took my girlfriend to the premiere of SF, our first Bond film together, and she'll be joining me again next week for SP. And now, as I did back then, I've taken the liberty of reminding her of my 2 Cardinal rules for these events:

    1. No popcorn or comparably noisey snacks of any kind shall be permitted.

    2. Open your mouth only to breathe (and softly at that), save all comments and questions until the end, and just enjoy the ride! :007)

She's been a good sport thus far, however she is on probation at the moment, for falling asleep during LALD a few years ago! :))

:)) Great to have you back, old friend {[]

My girlfriend is the most casual of Bond film viewers...she scored points early on in our relationship when she allowed me to show her CR and QoS back to back one Sunday afternoon. Subsequently, she was seen most of the Connerys, Lazenby, two Moores and one Brosnan. She understands and tolerates my illness, and will be my date for SP in IMAX on 6 November. I love this girl!

It depends on the person you're watching it with. For example, some people are incapable of shutting the hell up during films.

For me it depends on the film :))

If it's in my top 5...then no, not really...I like to watch with other fans, as I know they won't natter through it.

    If it's a throw away film...then I don't care so much.

I seldom see Bond movies with others, but when I do I find it hard to hold my tongue. It's tempting to spurt out trivia and anectdotes about James Bond and his world.

Well two days ago my opinion on this drastically changed. I already talked about this for a bit in the 'SPECTRE Reviews" thread. I went for a second viewing of SPECTRE and it was a horrible expierence.

Where's my first viewing was at the pre premiere in Imax with a room full of Bond fans who were even applauding the gunbarrel at the start. Here, I was in a small room with a small amount of people and the most annoying drunk guy sitting in my row. During the commercials he was already being annoying by constantly yelling and repeating words from the screen.
After the gunbarrel he did the same by repeating: "The Dead Are Alive " Out rediciously loud in Dutch. But fine, I could take that. But then things became even more annoying when he started yelling when Bond fell on the couch in the PTS: "Oh SURE! COME ONE! HOW TYPICAL DO YOU BELIEVE THAT?!" ... And after the opening titles when M mentioned MI5 merging with the service he goes: "IT'S MI6!!!" .... With the Mr. White suicide scene he started yelling: "HE'S GOING TO COMMIT SUICIDE I CAN FEEL IT!" ... "SEE I TOLD YOU!" He was constantly playing with his lighter and talking throughout the whole first half. Just off topic talking with his girlfriend, who for some reason even thought it was funny and thought nothing of it.... There were more people asking him to quiet down, some less polite than others. But he just went on. Luckily during the break he went home...

What a horrible horrible expierence. I was glad I had already seen the movie. Because for all the other people who were most likely seeing this for the first time, the whole first half was completely ruined. When we walked out during the break nobody was talking about the movie, everybody was talking about the annoying drunk guy.... Such a shame.
