It's quite bizarre how the MI movies have changed in tone, MI was relatively dark, mi2 was radically different, mi3 seems to be the most disliked and the last 2 have followed a formula, and all with the same actor! Bond films seem to get a lot more criticism when the tone or formula are changed.
Quite true hth, Ive enjoyed the MI films but have such a long standing attachment to bond nothing else compares really. I think it's the sheer timescale that brings bond out in front.
I don't think it's the timescale alone, Bond is bigger on every scale ( the stunts were too untl MI:4 came around), Bond has even more famous actors and as you said, runs now successfully for 53 years.
"You see Mr.Bond, you can't kill my dreams...but my dreams can kill you.Time to face destiny" - "Time to face gravity"
SPECTRE reminds me of Return Of The Jedi in that many elements might have been weak, but Dan, like Mark in the latter, carried it through despite it all. -{
I have come to regard SP (sadly) as a draw, rather than a win.
Whoah, I started out NOT a Craig fan in 2006, am I now an even bigger Craig fan than many here---??? ?:)
Not more than me
BTW, saw RN yesterday evening---what a blast. Just a rollicking good time. I do love the ongoing nod to the original series in the credits, wherein we see bits of the upcoming action with the burning fuse. And in this one, a nod to the TV show's pilot episode, where the principal gets his briefing in a record store! This time with a twist, of course B-)
I really admire how Cruise is handling this franchise as it matures (along with him, haha)...the quality remains very high, the action top-notch, and the humour spot-on. Really a fantastic couple of hours.

About 6 weeks ago I took my wife to see SPECTRE at the cinema (she isn't a Bond fan per se but she's been to every single one of them since we've been married 30+ years ago), on leaving the theatre I asked her if she enjoyed it. She said she did but it was very samey to Skyfall, and she didn't understand part of it. I asked her would she watch it again and she answered no way.
So tonight we have just watched Rogue nation and all the way through it she was jumping about like a kid. I asked her which was the better film and unfortunately she said Rogue Nation.
Just reporting what her thoughts were.
One thing for sure is we need better writers on the next Bond film.

Understandable. Cruise never does not deliver the goods, and from a female POV I guess he's cute as Hell. )

So's Craig to my mrs, she loves Casino Royale.
I think it was the story.
For instance the capture of Blofeld in SPECTRE loads of CGI and not very believable.
The capture of the baddie in Rogue nation far more plot with twists and reality, plus a throw back to an earlier scene when Hunt was captured.

That may depend on the age of the female. Over the summer my wife and I were talking about seeing Rogue Nation. My nineteen-year-old daughter and her friends were in the kitchen and I asked them if they'd seen it.
I was greeted by laughter and gagging noises. I asked what that was all about and they said they couldn't stand Tom Cruise. "Weird" "old" "short" "too much plastic surgery" were the comments I recall.
I asked them about Daniel Craig and they all thought he was hot.

Just goes to show you.
Tom Cruise certainly is weird and short. But he's not much older than Daniel Craig, and he looks younger.
I think the height of an actor shouldn't play a role when rating him as an actor ?:)
and he may be weird, but blend that out, most of his movies are good

Yeah, only the old part comes into play when talking to teenage girls... 8-)

" I find your lack of faith disturbing !"
I found the lack of a decent script, editing, theme song, and leading lady in Spectre disturbing.
I unabashedly prefer the Bond film series to the MI film series, but when looking at specific films, Rogue Nation is much better than Spectre.
Have to totally agree and would add soundtrack as well.

Craig is very good in SP and is not the problem, in fact for me he propels it and carries it forward.
