Conduit Cut suit - Anthony Sinclair

Thinking of getting one of the above and was interested in any experience from members here. I've had a look through previous threads and wonder whether the current offer looked contemporary but 'classical' or had dated.

Also, is it a well made/traditionally made suit or more like the cheaper offerings at Charles Tyrwhitt, T M Lewin etc.

Thoughts and experience would be welcomed, thanks.

It has a classic look that will never date, but it depends on fit. The slim fit has a shorter than traditional length, so being 5'9" I need a long length for it to cover my buttocks. It is meant to have a slimmer fit than Sean Connery's 1960s suits, which have a very full cut.

    Thanks Matt, I'm 5'8" ( but perfectly formed)......would you suggest a long?!

I had a great experience meeting David Mason (current director of Anthony Sinclair) here in the states. The suits are incredibly well made and fit like a finely tailored suit. Depending on your body build, I highly recommend the slim fitting suit. The slim fit is not tight like many brands. I wear a 42 in Brooks Brothers Fitzgerald and was able to fit into a 38 Slim in the Anthony Sinclair no problem. A regular length will fit you fine unless you're one of those old people that like to wear baggy suits two sizes too big.

I'm the same height as you and DM fitted me for my suit in person, so he chose an appropriate length to my height and body shape. The Conduit Cut is based on the old cut of suits that AS originally started out doing for British cavalry officers, which is slightly longer than most suit 'coats' almost akin to equestrian hacking jackets in length. If it helps I normally take a 40 Short in off the peg Hackett suits.

Ultimately if you can't meet up with DM in which ever country you reside, then take instructions from him on getting measured and let him work the magic to furnish you with a suit that fits. Nothing beats having a tailor measure and later fit you in person.

I would suggest a regular for someone 5'8".

The Conduit Cut, even in Connery's day, was not a long cut at all. Connery's suit jackets were actually slightly on the short side. Many English tailors preferred a longer cut, but that was certainly not the case for Connery's suits. They were only slightly short, unlike the very short slim fit model of the ready-to-wear Anthony Sinclair suit. That model has little in common with the cut of Sean Connery's suits, especially since Connery's suits in the 60s could hardly be called slim.

Doubtless good advice from someone with you're subject matter knowledge Matt. I probably should have pointed out I wear 40S OTP suits to optically give me a bit of length, as I have a regular sized body with short legs. Life cheated me of a couple of inches, what can I say :))

Thoughts on David Mason - a lovely gentlemen.

Thoughts on the Conduit Cut - a nicely made suit (I would say generally nicer fabric than Charles Tyrwitt and TM Lewin et al.), though you would expect so for Super 130s, but the cut was not flattering for my body type (made me look large hipped and narrow shouldered - which is the opposite for my actual body), and the shoulders were simply not for me. I have many photos, if you're interested (I can post them here later). I ultimately had to return the suit as it simply would never have worked for my body type.

The length of the Slim, Long, was good, and the trousers were brilliant (I still miss them, may yet purchase a pair separately, they were that good).

I loved all of the little details of the suit, and was very sad that I had to return it. Definitely make an appointment and go and try it on. As I said, David is a lovely gentleman. The suits are also rather gorgeous—if they fit you nicely, I will be rather jealous. As with anything off the rack, it's a gamble. It could fit you brilliantly, it could be a disaster (which it was on me). I struggle a lot with OTR suits, and have thus decided money is better spent on either MTM or Bespoke.

    For reference I am 6ft2 and weigh 14 stone (187cm/90kgs). I am a 42 inch chest and have a 34 inch waist.

I purchased a suit yesterday, and will be able to show comparison pictures maybe by the weekend.

Do recall Mantis/David's review - the suit looks great on him. We're just different...

I agree with many of the above.

The quality is well above TM Lewin etc.
More akin to Chester Barrie (proper Chester Barrie rather than the "Chester" range which is a lot cheaper).

    The experience is great.
David is a true gentleman and definitely knows his craft.
He is also a true Bond fan.

If the suit does not flatter (I've bought the sharkskin and navy and now looking to buy the charcoal and probably want to alter the length and button position) I would ask about alterations which costs a little more but you will have the suit that you want. I did this with the shirts and am very happy. In fact I have always had trouble finding shirts that are of the correct cut and quality (and price!!) for me. I love the shirts more than the suits and will buy all mine from AS from now on.

    Good luck with your appointment.

Let us know how you get on.

I would like to add that I did have the jacket and trousers altered and I returned it, less alteration fees.

I kept the shirt, as it was made to measure. The shirt is lovely, and is a great fit.

For me, it simply was not a great fit, mostly in the arms and back. As I said, I am happy to post photos, but you should really see for yourself—I hope it is a great fit!

I'm really keen on purchasing the Conduit suit but have been a little concerned it would not be fitted enough for me.

Does anyone around 5'9 have a 36/38" slim fit who could post pictures? Unfortunately I'm in Sydney so visiting is not really an option, but I will measure myself up.

That would be great thank you. Can you also tell them their website has an error :) I emailed them a couple of days ago but haven't heard back which means I can't order anything until it comes back up.

I had a nice meeting with the lovely Elliott at AS in November to pick fabric for my a conduit cut for my wedding this summer.
My other half and I had a mini-freak out when we realised we were sitting in the same room that John Lennon had lived and how many people we idolised had actually been in the room we were in (the many pictures on the wall of 60s musical icons were quite a distraction).

Loved every minute and looking for forward to going back in April for measurements.

Would be worth emailing David and asking him what measurements would be helpful for him to guide you on choice, I'm certain he would be very willing to help you out.
