Had a great time being a guest on the From Tailors With Love podcast yesterday with Matt Spaiser. Thanks again for the invitation! If anyone wants to listen, here's the link:

    Cheers!
That's brilliant John, you really are such a modest guy, you deserve massive kudos for the effort you put in here and with IA, as does Matt S for his site as well, it's also surprisingly good fun to put a voice to the profile for you and Matt. Keep it up, hopefully I'll be getting a bit more time to do some hunting soon and join in again with this great thread and IA.

Too bad about the leather stripe down the back:

    https://www.hautelook.com/events/313848/products/2893346/thorogood-kenosha-suede-leather-boot?color=DESERT%20SAND

But otherwise great alternatives to the J.Crew Kentons.

I listened this morning, and expected to hear Pete and Matt talk about McQueen but what a surprise to hear your interview, John! I really enjoyed it and appreciate all you do for the community!

I had those listed in the Kenton alternatives article (but I linked directly to Thorogood I think). Thorogood makes excellent boots and that's a great price!

Morning, all! I've updated the selvedge denim guide on the website with new options.

    https://www.iconicalternatives.com/2018/05/08/guide-to-selvedge-denim-jeans/

I did look to see if I could find some grey selvedge denim for the Ford jeans, but I didn't find too much. Either very expensive (compared to indigo denim) or not pre-faded. Anyway, I'll keep looking for alternatives and I'm keeping track of what you're sharing here.

    Cheers!

Morning everyone! New Post: a look at some Steve McQueen fall style essentials (with a little bit of Daniel Craig thrown in there).

    https://www.iconicalternatives.com/2019/08/25/steve-mcqueen-fall-style/

Just a heads up: I've been having problems with the website loading. I've been on the phone with my hosting service since 4:30 AM to get it resolved and it looks like things are almost back to normal. But if the page is slow to load or acts a little weird, that's why. I'm really sorry about the delays you might experience. But the issues are on the server end of things and unfortunately there's not much I can do about it until GoDaddy gets their act together.

    Anyway, enjoy your Sunday!

    Hi

QOS was on TV last night and so with the great weather here today I had a QOS day. I know the film itself has come in for some bard knocks but style wise it had 3 of my most favourite looks (Haiti, Talamone and La Perla Du Las Dunas). So today it was Haiti. Then I realise over the years I have accumulated real and budget alternatives (or not so in one case) for some accessorises that cover all 3 looks!

Real on the left (TF108, Ryders and PO 2500) and budget on the right (TF207, Loake Pimlico and PO 2500 LM LE).

Also have real Y3 and Royale Version :D (well gives me some longevity)

    Cheers :007)

I like how your "budget version" also features TF sunglasses and an Omega watch :))

    Sorry for the late reply folks, here are some pics of the G Star Raw pants, don't know if it's a close match but i like them -{

ellipsis97: I haven't seen the Tom Fords in person. But those look like a great match based on the set photos. Would be cool to see them in sunlight. Most important thing is you like them!

Bond44: Nice! And that includes both your "screen accurate" and "budget" alternatives :D

I've updated the post on Bond's SPECTRE apartment with some new alternatives:

I'll have Part 2 ready early next week.

    Good morning!

New Post: 5 Things I Want for August

    https://www.iconicalternatives.com/2019/08/29/5-things-i-want-august/

My wish list this month has some Bond, McQueen and a few other odds and ends. I'm working on the next article for the Affordable Bond Wardrobe and the SF All Saints cords post and should have those done by the weekend. Have a great day, gang!

Morning all! Post update on the All Saints Iggy cords:

    https://www.iconicalternatives.com/2015/12/10/all-saints-iggy-corduane-jeans/

I was hoping to publish the Bond Wardrobe article on Sport Coats, Outerwear and Footwear today, but I'm still having some behind the scenes technical problems. I'm hoping I get those resolved today so I can publish it on Monday or Tuesday.

    Enjoy your Sunday, gentlemen!

Quick question, is this the correct Barbour jacket that was released to be closer to the Skyfall one?

    https://www.farfetch.com/shopping/men/barbour-beacon-sports-jacket-item-14097069.aspx?storeid=9359

It looks right, the only reason I ask is the link I had saved for the correct one on End Clothing has suddenly almost doubled in price. If it is, it might be worth it to jump on it before it goes up too.

That's the latest version. The sequence goes To Ki To -> Dept B. Commander (released very soon after Skyfall) -> Beacon Heritage Sport Coat/Jacket (been on the market since fall/winter 2013/14, I think). You'll know it's the Commander because it will have "Barbour Dept. B" embroidered on the flap of the bottom left pocket.

For what it's worth, I haven't read that there's any difference between the Commander and the Beacon Heritage other than the inside label and the pocket embroidery. The actual design is pretty much identical.

    Hope that helps!

Finally!!! The next post in the Bond wardrobe series is up. Looking at sport coats and blazers this time:

    https://www.iconicalternatives.com/2019/09/03/the-bond-wardrobe-sport-coats-outerwear/

Unfortunately, shoes and boots didn't make it into this one. But I'll create a separate post for those.

    Cheers!

Hey everyone! Post update alert. I've added new options to the second part of the Bond apartment series.

    https://www.iconicalternatives.com/2017/02/17/affordable-james-bond-apartment-part-ii/

Is it just me, or does it seem like things have been a little quiet around AJB lately? Even the NTTD threads seem calm. We need a trailer!

    Cheers!

Not just you, it is very quiet. I think there is a general lessening of rapture for Bond 25, hopefully this will increase as we get nearer the release. As for clothes, so far we've had meager pickings from B25 spyshots and a lot of suits, I think the casual outfits create more excitement than the suits.

Good points! I thought maybe social media (IG, FB, Twitter) was draining off some of the discussion. But even there it's been a little quiet.

Well to be honest, I usually link into IA from my FB so that does sometimes stop me coming onto this thread, but on AJB I just struggle sometimes to find a place in the conversations that are going well or the topics just aren't pulling me in. The new series of interviews have been great, but as far as clothing threads go, there just isn't much meat to the bones of Bond 25 yet, especially as the lions share of shots have been DC himself in a suit or the stunt double. I'm sure things will pick up, but for me, extreme excitement turned to despondency when I found out Blofeld was back, there just isn't anyway I'll enjoy continuing the whole brother thing, and that in turn makes me less eager for the Bond 25 outfits.

I’m still struggling with an alternative for the gray Tom Ford’s
These fame in my email today...https://www.express.com/clothing/men/skinny-gray-stretch-jeans/pro/03326526/color/Gray/

Does that kinda capture the essence or TOO skinny?
  • canoe2canoe2 Posts: 2,007MI6 Agent
goneontheroad: I think the color looks close. As for fit, the way Bond wears the Tom Ford ones makes them look like a slim straight or tappered cut. So definitely not super skinny. So I'd focus more on getting a cut that gives you that look. Express jeans tend to be pretty slim to start with. So if those ones are listed as a "Skinny Fit" they're probably crossing into jegging territory.

Post update! Shawl Collar Cardigan season is coming!!! :D Starting the updates with the McQueen blue one:

    https://www.iconicalternatives.com/2016/09/15/steve-mcqueen-blue-shawl-collar-cardigan/

There's some really good alternatives this season, so I'm pretty happy with the selection!

Indeed. I own the Tom Ford shawl cardigan in black and the Royale in ivory, and I love them both. The next step would be to get a McQueen blue.

The only problem is that my wife is convinced cardigan sweaters are an "old man thing." No amount of my pointing to stills from QoS will persuade her otherwise.

Never mind that I had a college girl — in a Walmart of all places — tell me how great my TF sweater looked and ask where she could get one for her boyfriend. She looked shell-shocked when I told her the price. :))
