I for one reside slap bang in the middle of the Bond and Spaghetti Western Venn diagram, so I'd be interested in seeing alternatives for the duster. I feel like you need to be really cool to pull it off though and I'm certainly no Craig or Eastwood!
Great article as always, thank you very much. Would love to see Iconic Alternatives try to tackle the Massimo Alba Rain Duster. Alternatives for that jacket have proven to be very challenging to come by!
Thanks! About that duster: I am looking for alternatives here and there, but I haven't really started to dig in. I'm hoping spring arrivals bring something decent. Then there's the fact that I really don't like that look. I kind of get the appeal, but it is just so not "Bond" to me. If I wanted to see Craig in a Western I'd force myself to sit through Cowboys and Aliens again But don't worry, I'll get to it sooner rather than later because I know some folks like it. Cheers!
You're not alone!
I think it's telling that even the replica companies don't seem to be making versions of the duster yet (although I might be wrong about that).
In a bit of a rush today. My son is on school vacation so I'm taking him to the Aquarium. And I still want to update that post on Bond boots by Thursday!
And yes: we have affordable options for the Drake's Crosby AND the C&J Moltons! I will say that when it came to researching some of the older boots (Loakes and Zaras in particular) the threads here were a huge help. I've linked to them, but please let me know if I missed anyone.
I also tried something different with this post, highlighting 3 or 4 really good alternatives and then listing other options that could be worth a shot. I'd love to hear from you guys if you think that's useful or just a waste of time.
I actually stumbled across one in the store and picked it up for $18 (I'll try and do a fit pic later). It is insulated, but the padding is extremely lightweight. The color is called "Dark Grey" but it definitely has a blue tint to it that matches the look of the Barbour. And it fits true to size (I'm a medium in J.Crew, Barbour, etc and the medium in this fits me spot on). At this price, I think I might pick up another one and experiment with removing the insulation, waxing it, etc. Just for fun! Unfortunately, I can't find it on the H&M UK site. But here are the model numbers from the tag:

I wanted to share this with you guys first. I'm going to include it in the next Best Budget finds next week.
It had an off white colour, trim fit and some texture to the material too. I'm often a size S but went with M for this one and it's still quite a slim fit, for a looser SA fit maybe size up again?

Much appreciated, HC, I'll definitely check that option out! Since you seem a well-informed fellow on these things, I wonder if you'd also come across any suitable alternatives for the Massimo Alba 'Winch' trousers? I.e. a lightish grey pair of cords.
Be sure to check out a few sites for that SH henley, alot of places have some great free returns policies allowing you to order multiple sizes, as I did.

These are great, and if I didn't have almost all of the originals, I'd be buying up a storm. ) Seriously, the only ones I haven't taken the plunge on are the Sanders and Sanders, but I might have to try the affordable option here.
YMMV but if you're considering investing in *any* pair of SA boots from the Craig era, I would strongly encourage you to pick up the C&J Moltons. They have pushed aside the Islays as my favorite boots from his run as Bond.

Great article as always and I actually preferred the look of one of the additional links! If anyone is considering buying the Crosby alternatives from Dress For Less you can get 20% off the discounted price with the code HELLO20. They look like a good match and that takes the price down to just over £100 for those in the UK!

I'm sure C2 will have some great options incoming .

Ah the Samuel Windsor's, yes I've actually been aware of these for quite a few months now but they're never in stock in my size. I sent an email to their support awhile back but didn't hear anything back. I'm surprised finding a pair of trousers of a similar style is this difficult.

Hey John, I was thinking... Yesterday's post you showed a possible alternative for the NTTD duster, and mentioned that you weren't a fan of the look yourself and came up with some alternative suggestions on what Bond could wear in that environment.
Once such example was the MONITALY Triple Needle Work A-Jacket, which I have to say looks really great (despite being unavailable in my size), and I could definitely see Craig pulling it off.
As you're clearly a man of taste yourself, I wondered if you've ever considered for some future posts your own fantasy Bond attire? Aka clothing that you think would look cool for Bond if you were chosen as costume designer. I for one wouldn't mind seeing your own suggestions alongside the signature SA alternatives.
I know the Samuel Windsor cords have already been mentioned as alternatives for Winch2 (Hold Command, I gave you credit for the find in the post). I looked everywhere for a better option and there's not much out there. That light grey color is the challenge as I'm sure you all know. But I'll keep digging!
kristopherm3: thanks! And yes, that Monitaly is a nice piece.
I'm not sure about being a "man of taste" I'm pretty good at identifying what I don't like about an outfit and can sometimes think of ways to make it better (to my eyes). But my talents for creating a Bond look from scratch are very limited. Costume designers have my respect, even if I don't always agree with their choices.
I have two problems with that duster. First, I just don't like the way it looks with the henley. The photo of Bond wearing it with the Connolly shirt is a little better. But it still wouldn't have been my first choice for outerwear.
Second, and imho much worse: it just isn't practical. Bond wears a waxed Barbour in hot and humid Cuba, but for a run through a cold, damp forest he wears a cotton corduroy bathrobe? Yeah, I don't get it.
I understand that Bond has always given in a little to the fashion trends of his time. Some of Moore's pieces, Dalton's oversized fits, Brosnan's hard 3 suit jackets, etc. But that duster is the first piece I've seen Bond wear purely for " the fashion" since maybe Moore's denim suit.
And I also think it was a missed opportunity to bring in another great jacket. If Craig wants Bond to go a little more "workwear" in his casual style, there are so many awesome pieces out there that would have looked good AND made practical sense in the context of the story. Hell, even a proper oil cloth duster would have worked!
Anyway, rant over and I shall say no more of my dislike for corduroy dusters.
Great article as always! I have suggested another black corduroy alternative as well on the comments section. If anyone has the Samuel Windsor in the UK with either a 30/33 or 32/33 and don't want them I would be happy to take them off your hands!
Guys! Get the Banana Republic option for the Winch2. I just went to a BR store and bought them. Will post a pic when I get home, but the color looks like a great match (more grey in person) and they do have the button tab at the waist. Really happy I got them.

Yeah, as far as I know it's still hasn't been identified.
