Have a look in John Lewis they had a nice peak lapel pecoat when Skyfall came out which I was lucky enough to get. If you get over to one quick you might be able to find something.
I used to work for M&S and their quality has really taken a nosedive in recent years. I pointed out that Solden alternative in the Spectre Wardrobe thread a couple of months ago but I wouldn't get it. Zara have a good one that is better quality.

As I mentioned previously I purchased the Land's End Slim Fit Cords. I got them for $15 (Sale + Promo Code). For that price they are perfectly fine, but I wouldn't pay much more. The fabric is a bit thin and lightweight. Adequate for California, but not anyplace with really cold weather.

They are indeed a slim fit, maybe approaching skinny. I sized up one inch for the extra room in the rise, legs, and hips. YMMV, so if you run towards the very slender, it would be more true to size.

Are you sure you mean the Sölden Jacket? I have yet to see a version from Zara...

Yes the Solden, I've just had a look at their online store and can't see it but their Branch at Oxford Circus in London had a couple when I was in there on Thursday.

Interesting. Sorry if I sounded too critical but there was a Zara version suggested earlier and it turned out to be a vest with a sweater underneath. And I'd (only) been checking their online store(s). Does this one have knitted sleeves and are they gray? I bought the M&S version yesterday and found it quite good, but the navy cotton sleeves aren't SA of course... I may have to look for myself I guess.

No apology needed. Yes it has knitted sleeves but it's all black as opposed to navy which is probably a deal breaker for some people.

I'm going back on Monday so I'll try to take a picture of it.

I just bought a pair of these trousers for the solden outfit.

I'll update once I receive them, but happy to find something in wool (and cotton mix) with pleats, which has been difficult.

Apologies, I put this in the wrong thread earlier. Newbie error. (Thanks to Martin Aston for pointing it out!)

I was reading up at Iconic Alternatives just last night about QoS Harrington budget alternatives and one of the choices has popped up today with 20% off (today only). Slightly elasticated waist at the sides, but a viable alternative, forum?:

    (Obviously, click the navy!)

A big round of applause for James Brosnan's first article for website! {[]

His subject is the TND Motorcycle chase outfit. Check it out here:

I should also add that if anyone else feels like writing something up, I am more than happy to post it. You can shoot me an email at info@iconicalternatives.com or PM me here with ideas.

Almost done updating the existing posts, then it is on to new items. 001: the Casino Royale One and Only Club and Miami Airport looks have been on my list for a while. They're both definitely coming up soon.

I came across this one from Vendoneire: http://www.vedoneire.com/mens-wool-pea-coat-3083-wine-navy/

About $220.00 but you get 15% off if you sign up for their emails. Just note that it's only 50% wool, with no mention of what the other materials are. May be a little long for a true bond look, but it has the flap pockets and the hand warmer pockets, which not something I've seen a lot. Ships out of Ireland, and in my experience they offer amazing customer service.

This looks pretty good. As you mentioned, the length is probably a little much. I noticed in one of the pictures there's a contrast detail on the back of the collar, do you think that's only on the 'port wine' version or do you think it'll also be on the navy version? But very close indeed. Definitely difficult to find one with both hand-warmers and the flap pockets, usually it's either one or the other but not both. I think finding one with peak lapels is a bit ambitious so I'm not too bothered about that.

Seems like a nice option, I have owned many pea coats over the years and recently gave this a go:

    http://www.superdry.com/mens/jackets/details/48584/premium-pea-coat

I know, I know! most of their stuff is plastered in logos and silly details, this one however is not; there is some branding under the collar which is removable, the wool is really nice and the fit trim (particularly the arms).

    Obviosuly we're ignoring the lack of peak lapels, patch pockets and other features, but as a trim fitting, quality (71% wool) budget pea coat, I'm happy! -{

This one certainly looks to have nice fit to it but I'm not sure about the button arrangement. Probably would be easy enough to take the top ones out, but I wouldn't want to compromise it in terms of functioning as a coat and closing properly at the top. Incredibly good price though because it seems high quality. Do you think the buttons would come out easily enough?

I've just been back to Zara and I have to admit that I'm not that keen on it after trying it on. The version from M&S is actually more accurate so I took the plunge and bought it.

They are simply sewn on in the normal way, so taking them out wouldn't be a problem; as for functionality, I never really do pea coats up all the way, and with the next buttons down fastened, it would still be plenty warm, so could afford to lose them.

I think with free delivery (or click and collect) and free returns it's worth a look!

I also tried on the M and S jacket and quite liked it, have not purchased it yet though.

FYI the website doesn't show smalls for some reason but they are available in store.

As for the quality vs Zara, M and S gear may be liable to fluctuations in quality, but I think overall they beat Zara comfortably, Zara really is only a notch above H&M (which is always terrible) and some of the materials are really awful.

On a positive the Zara JV alternative is holding up well thus far! {[]

They're out of stock of size small at their central distribution centre so if you want a small then you'll have to find one at a Store. I was lucky enough to grab the last one in Victoria today.
  • VoxIsMyCowboyVoxIsMyCowboy Posts: 47MI6 Agent
I think I picked up the last size small from their huge store in Cheshire oaks. Lucky because they had the jackets hanging in two different places, one with no small so I nearly purchased a medium which looked okay, if not a bit long.
  • OrnithologistOrnithologist BerlinPosts: 586MI6 Agent
I can say I endorse the M&S version whole-heartedly. Yes, the pockets (to the side, hardly visible) and the sleeves (navy, cotton) aren't SA but that's about it. The front looks very good, has the right color (navy), goes well with a turtleneck and all that at £39. Very good choice for those who won't (or can't) afford even the Royale version, or missed out on it.

I took the plunge and order the M&S Harrington and Solden jacket. Fingers crossed. When I looked, the Solden wasn't on their US site, and they're about to stop shipping from the UK site to America.

I'm heading to M&S tomorrow morning, to return my frugal Harrington as it happens - just didn't fit right on me. Anybody want me to look out for anything for them? Should I look out for a Solden in small?

I found it on the US site, however they are sold out of the small and medium sizes.

Alright, after getting some "real world" work cleaned up and out of the way, we're back in action. Older posts have been updated with dead links removed and some new options added. And there is a new post up for alternatives for the Billy Reid peacoat.

This is a repost but there's a decent sale at Civilianaire for whoever wants awesome looking henleys.... some said these were very reminiscent of Mikael's shirts in Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and they're finally on sale!

armenianmovieman: Very nice! I think I'm going to grab a couple of those.

I don't know if you noticed, but they also do a black jacket that could be a good alternative for the Adidas Y-3, on sale for $47.50 (reg $190):

Yup! I had posted that, although I actually prefer a simpler cleaner jacket than this one; the Y3 has a track jacket vibe while this one feels a bit more...... I guess the right word is formal.

Probably not as fitted as the Y3 but finding decent alternatives to that jacket is difficult!

Picked up two henleys and a tshirt in the sale. Thanks again for the heads up!
