Thanks for that great article! I've ordered from Banana Republic Factory quite a bit. I've always been impressed with their pieces...very Bond-ish. The sale right now is great with 60% off plus an additional 15% off.
@JTBond I ordered that grey puffer jacket from the post. Price went down to $52 so I figured it was worth a roll of the dice.
I've also updated the big Black Friday sales list with more brands. So lots more to explore and there are actually some pretty great deals. I'm working away on a post on my favorite Style Icon Affordable Alternatives, discussing how some of the pieces have held up over the years, why I like them, etc. Hope to have that published tomorrow. Just need it to stop raining here so I can do the photography.
The issue is down to either posting too many posts too quickly or re-editing posts…both issues will make you fall foul of the dreaded spamfilter - sorry.
Happy Sunday! Believe it or not, IA is coming up on its 7 year anniversary! So I decided to make today's post about some of my favorite affordable alternatives that I've added to my collection over the years. There are pieces inspired by Bond, Craig and McQueen and I talk about why I like them and how they've held up after years of use and abuse.
Congratulations on seven years! I've discovered a lot of great brands and pieces through your site. Boondocker, &Sons, Paul James...
I got a kick out of @Gymkata buying two Harringtons as it's something I'm always tempted to do when I love a jacket in particular. If only I had more space!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! I'll be updating the post on the Patterson either in December or early January. Depends if an interview I have planned goes through. And that's great about buying 2 ROYALE jackets! I totally understand the anxiety of losing something or having a piece wear out and not being to get a replacement! 😲
@canoe2 thanks for the Michael Stewart confirmation. I missed out on the Barbour Beacon this time, but I did get the gray puffer and messenger bag you recommended on the last post!
I thought this was a really interesting look, very simple on the surface. But when I started digging into the details, I started thinking there were some things we could all appreciate about the way a monochrome look could be adapted to men of all ages. Look forward to hearing some insights on that!
Hi all! I've updated our post on classic sheepskin and shearling jackets. We have some great options for the different styles worn by Craig, McQueen, Redford, Delon.
I believe Indy isn't wearing Aldens in the new film; they're a different shape. A little while ago a bootmaker for movie productions said on Instagram that they had made the boots, the post went down pretty quickly after that.
These from Next look like a bit of a value version although I don't know how good they are.
@emtiem and @Westward_Drift Thanks for the info on the boots in the new movie. I honestly had no idea they'd changed makers. I've updated the post with credit to both of you for the intel.
As for why the change, I was thinking about that a little. I doubt it had anything to do with pricing. At this point, Alden would probably be happy to give the production free boots just to maintain the connection. And I can't imagine mutliple custom boots would be significantly less expensive than buying 405s in bulk anyway.
The only thing I can come up with is fit and comfort. Ford isn't a young man. So maybe they needed boots that looked like the 405s but were cushioned like a running shoe or offered more support (like a higher collar/shaft) or had a special footbed or a specific sole for more traction. All the things that would help a movie star in his late 70s stay on his feet during a long shoot. Just a guess.
This is the first in a series I'm going to do on Bond's longer, dressier winter outerwear. Next up is double breasted styles and then I'll look at some of the more unusual coats, like the OHMSS car coat, the QoS great coat and the SPECTRE bridge coat.
I'm heading into the city on Friday, and hopefully I'll be able to check it out in person. But, to be honest, I haven't been overly impressed with their tailored pieces so far. That GF suit was a mess IMHO. Having said that, an overcoat is a simpler design and I really should have added to the list. I just think the pricing is way off for what it is (90% wool/10% cashmere). Especially when you can get 100% cashmere options for $300 or $400 less. Just my initial thoughts
Good idea! I honestly didn't know folks in the U.S. could order from their UK site. I've also updated the post to include the N.Peal coat and credited you for jogging my awful memory 😁 Man, I hate getting old!
Find this on Massimo Dutti. Could be an alternative for the Skyfall Jacket (less maintenance than a wax jacket) and in my little head the DAD jacket PB wears at the beginning.
Its getting quite hard to find now though unfortunately.
It's obviously a bit of a challenge to find alternatives for some of those (not many 10 button coats out there right now). But I think there are some good options for each style.
Morning, all! Rushing around this morning because I have a World Cup viewing party in an hour. But I've updated our post on the classic peacoat with plenty of new alternatives!

Just a test. I seem to be having some issues with posting comments.

New post: a look at Brosnan's all black style on Late Night with Seth Meyers

Happy Sunday! Now that the trailer for the new Indiana Jones movie is out, I updated our post on his Alden 405s with some new alternatives
Heading off skiing today! Cheers!

Also, Banana Republic have these in the US.
The jitterbug.boy account? They did some cool looking custom boots for Tom Cruise in MI: Fallout.
I wonder why the change.
That's the one, I couldn't recall the name, thanks.

Back to Bond today and a look at alternatives for the classic navy overcoat!

Gymkata making me blush ... 🤗
Anyway, happy Sunday everyone! The Christmas Wish List is now live on the site
Hope it helps you find some gifts!

Does anyone have a good alternative for the navy wool beanie Bond wears in Spectre?
@Garyorange that's a nice modern alternative for the jacket!
New post: continuing the series on overcoats, today I looked at all the double breasted styles from OHMSS, LaLD, TWINE, QoS and SPECTRE
It's obviously a bit of a challenge to find alternatives for some of those (not many 10 button coats out there right now). But I think there are some good options for each style.
Cheers and Happy Hump Day!
John
I purchased this one and like it very much
Looks good. Thanks!
Happy Friday, gang! New post is up: Craig's look from the Vodafone commercial in 2017
I need a break from overcoats and this is about as far from formal winter outerwear as you can get 😁
Cheers!

Your peacoat update ^^^ was an inspiration when I picked one up recently from a charity shop for £11.99 👏
