So I've been building my summer wardrobe, using inspiration from http://www.iconicalternatives.com/, I've commented on there a few times and photos were requested so here you go.
As per some of the colours haven't photographed true.
    Morrocco all done.

    IMG_20160526_192954.jpg

And my old river Island jacket I've had a few years with a jaeger linen shirt and the reiss open collar polo.

The next drawstring linen trousers in stone with a next tailored long sleeve shirt.

Not strictly a camp shirt but Thunderball esque with David gandy swim shorts

My ted baker enjoying Death shirt with gap grey chinos and office chukkas and a version of the budget DC bag.

Finally for now (I've got so many clothes) and for those with long memories my take on the SP announcement outfit along with lucini Harrison boots and a vintage Omega.

Bravo! Gentlemen, with Chriscoop's permission of course, I can get these pics up on the site and we could have the start of our gallery! If others want to a) send me pics (info@iconicalternatives.com) or b) want to give me permission to use their previous photos posted in this thread on the site, I'll be more than happy to add them!

What about a title? Affordable Inspiration?

Thanks guys -{ , I could have done a load more but was trying to keep it relevant to http://www.iconicalternatives.com/ recent articles.
Just a side note, those bloody SP morrocco chinos and jacket just don't photograph true no matter what make they are! My jacket looks darker to the eye, and the chinos always look tan when in fact taupe. No wonder it's been so hard nailing the colours down!

Glad to see that some of us on the North American side of the pond could help out as well. My understanding is that third party companies that ship to you are extremely expensive, but I last looked them up several months ago.

I'd certainly like to get a made-to-measure cocktail cuff shirt from Marks & Spencer. They don't ship made-to-measure outside of the UK and that's the only way to get the cocktail cuffs. It's been a nightmare trying to get my cocktail cuff shirt from Magnoli and the quality of the M&S shirt appears to be quite good.
    canoe2 wrote:
    Re: cooperative shipping
Right now, I've found it is much easier for someone in the U.S. to order from a UK shop than vice versa. A lot of bigger UK vendors already have U.S. versions of their sites and U.S. shipping programs in place (often shipping is free over certain minimums). Additionally, new U.S. Customs policies mean you can now order up to $800 worth of international goods without paying taxes or duties ($200 used to be the threshold):

    http://www.wsj.com/articles/new-u-s-rules-make-foreign-goods-better-deal-for-online-shoppers-1462411116

There are also many U.S. and European companies using 3rd party services like Border Free to get things shipped internationally at reasonable rates. And of course, many vendors using Amazon or Ebay often include free shipping, no matter where they're located in the world. Just to give you two examples: I ordered a jacket directly from Vedoniere (Ireland), shipped to Miami for free in 4 days and paid no duties or taxes on it; I also recently ordered the Badgery Belts plaited leather belt from Amazon U.S. and paid $6.00 for shipping from Australia, and I won't pay taxes, duties etc. because the total price is under $800. However the belt is going to take about a month to reach me, so there's that :#

Normally, if I search a merchant website for alternatives, one of the first things I do is check which countries they service and their shipping policies to make sure the product I'm sharing on the site is going to be available to as many people as possible. It's not always possible, especially with rarer or harder to find items.

Of course returns are still going to be a pain and many of the smaller, boutique stores and vendors still only operate locally, so their lack of experience with international shipping and how to handle their own local VAT is going to result in higher (sometimes MUCH higher) shipping rates, duties and taxes.

Having said all that, if enough people feel that some type of "coordinated community shipping help center" service would be of value, then I can definitely try and set up a section of Iconic Alternatives focused on that. It wouldn't be a forum (that would be redundant since we have such a great community here), but I can try and work up some sort of strategy to help people connect for this specific purpose and share it with you all for feedback. Let me know what your think.

Should have a new post this afternoon or tomorrow morning at the latest!

Alright, who's ready for some lighter weight spring jackets? Affordable alternatives for the Belstaff K Racer Blouson Craig's been wearing around lately:

    http://www.iconicalternatives.com/2016/05/26/daniel-craig-belstaff-k-racer/

And don't worry, I'm keeping a "to do" list of the things I need to add to posts, future projects, and the gallery!

edit spelling. For reasons beyond my understanding, I keep spelling "blouson" with an "e" ?:)

Alright everyone! Version 1 of the gallery is live!

    http://www.iconicalternatives.com/gallery/

Don't want to overcomplicate this, but there's a few things I need to make clear:

    1. I only used pics that:
    a) members here have already authorized me to use
    b) were posted here, but the member has previously given me permission to use other pics

If you do NOT want a particular photo shared in the gallery, just let me know and I will gladly take it down.

    2. When faces are shown, I have blurred the face. Two exceptions:
    a) James Brosnan (because you post your face in your own articles)
    b) 1 pic of MrIceGuy because it shows the TF sunglasses.

Again, if you want any changes, just let me know and I will make them

    3. Where possible, I have included information on the articles of clothing used. If there are any blanks you want to fill in for this info, just shoot me a PM with the IDs and I will add them.

    3. If you want me to add your photo to the gallery, I am VERY happy to do so. I only ask:
    a) the photo is around 400px X 400px (I can resize bigger ones, but it's a bit of a pain)
    b) you include as much information as possible about the articles of clothing shown in the pic

    4. Regarding pics, I am trying to avoid photos of individual articles of clothing. The best pics would be:
    a) Photos of you wearing the look you've created (with your face already blanked or edited out if you do not want it seen)
    b) Style Grid type shots (like what Chriscoop did) showing all the articles of clothing together.

I won't be posting product shots of what you found "in the field" here unless you are wearing it (so a pic of a folded shirt in J.Crew or M&S won't be added to the Gallery)

    5. I would also greatly appreciate it if, along with your photo (whether you post it here or email it to me), you include a quick sentence stating that you're okay with me using it on the site AND if you're okay with me sharing it on social media (Facebook, Pinterest or Instagram). It can be one OR the other OR both (for example, you can say, "I'm okay with you using this in the Gallery, but I don't want it on social media.") As always with anything I share, I try my best to give credit to the right people and that will be the same here. I will NOT be using any affiliate links with any of your personal pics either on the site or on social media.

Lastly, I'm not that crazy about the stock Gallery software that comes with Wordpress, so I'm looking at some different plugins to help make it better. But I wanted to get this up so we can all start sharing. Thanks!

Came across a really nice alternative to the BC Moroccan chinos. A US company called Taylor Stitch makes a chino called the Slim Fit Chino in Ash.

    https://www.taylorstitch.com/collections/mens-pants/products/ash-standard-issue-slim-chino

It looks more grey on their site than it is in person. I received my pair the other day, and it's more taupe (definitely pink tones with some brown). It doesn't have the buttons on the back pockets, but the other details are very close. It's a shade or two darker than the BC chinos, but a very nice, budget-friendly alternative. If you join their mailing list, you'll get a 20% coupon too.

    Kind regards,
    Craig

The weather was nice out today, so I decided to wear my Quantum Haiti outfit. And since I had it on I thought I would take some photos for the board :)

This outfit is the definition of "Budget Bond", the whole look coming in at under €100!

    Full_Size_Render_2.jpg

    Full_Size_Render.jpg

The jacket was a lucky find on holiday in Barcelona back in February. It is a H&M David Beckham I spotted in the window of the shop which was €30. It seems to be sold out on their website (http://www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.0340195001.html) but can be found on eBay (for example here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mens-Xl-H-M-David-Beckham-Jacket-Brand-New-Navy-/231959177561?hash=item3601d82959:g:PI0AAOSwn8FXSYQB)

The navy polo is the same as I have for my Moroccan outfit was was from Primark for €7.

The chinos are also from Primark and were €10. They also had them in white, but I don't really do white trousers, and these also go with other Bond outfits!

The shoes were the most expensive part of the outfit and are brown chukkas from Topman, on sale for €50.

Very nice!! I think although not 100% SA the navy jacket and polo and cream/beige chinos match and work better for most people (as opposed to black and white).

Only thing about the jacket I dislike are the horizontal pockets. But that's just me being nit-picky.

Don't know why. If it doesn't work, look for "Brown slim fit cotton linen pants" from Charles Tyrwhitt.

CT is a pain to link to; if you are not in the same country as the original link, then it takes you to the home page
For example, Ornithologist's link is /us/ so anyone not in the U.S. cannot see the linked page directly.
