Anyone can help with links for BC chinos alternatives in the UK , just can't seem to find the right colour
Canoe2 can't see anything on your site for these
help appreciated
Just got my Uniqlo, light blue linen shirt in and my RL, BC alternative belt, and I am very happy with both!
The shirt is lighter blue than it looked online, and you can see the weave pattern in the picture above. I would have liked it to be more of a sky blue, but I'll live. The shirt is see-through, but not overly see-through; it's just the right amount in my opinion. The shirt is regular fit, and I had to get an XS, so I can't size down. But if you want a slim fit, you might have to size down. I would show some fit pics, but I gotta get it tailored slimmer first.
The belt is great! I love the details that do match the BC belt, and the belt completely captures the vibe of the BC one, to me. The belt feels like a wicker basket to me, which is cool. The belt is rather small though. I'm usually a 30, and I got a 32, and it just fits me. Usually 32's have a lot of belt left over on me, so I thought this one would too and I could tuck it in like DC does, but there is nothing left. So, if that was an issue for you, keep the sizing in mind.
Anyway, I tried the outfit in with my horrible grey chinos from Express and now the chinos are irritating me more than ever. So that brought me to realize that I need a better BC trouser alternative, so I'm on the look out, and will post if I find anything good. But, that also got me wondering, what you might have found for the BC pants canoe2, as I didn't see a post yet about them. I mean come on man! What, do you have a life or something? )
Honestly, I don't think the colour of the Gap chinos is close at all. The BC chinos are a fawn/taupe colour, and the grey of the Gap chinos looks really off with the jacket. The colour of the actual chinos is not something I often see.
drum007, thanks for the watch suggestions! Your's combined with the info James Brosnan shared give me a solid place to start.
James Brosnan, chriscollins007 and Dufus: I honestly didn't think alternatives for BC chinos were all that interesting to people, or that it was hard to find options (I naively thought "sorta beige pants" would do the trick for most). What Matt S said is also part of the problem; I want to get a good read on the color of the BCs before suggesting that "this grey" or "that taupe" is close enough. But I will keep an eye out, including the GAP ones used by Mantis in his video and suggested by Obi Sean Kenobi.
So the big news: no new post today, but I have moved the entire site over to a new domain and template; it is now live here:
All the existing posts have been migrated over and I've cleaned up the info (removing dead links, updating prices, fixing some images, etc.). I'm really excited to hear what the members here think of it!
Basically I did this because I thought the old layout was getting a little too difficult to navigate, what with people needing to scroll down and down to find older content. Also the menu and search was a little hard to find and almost no one was using it.
Anyway, there it is ... Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
Sorry: I should have also said that from now on the new posts will be at the new site. I will keep the old one running for another couple of days and then shut it down, just to avoid confusion. Thanks!
My, oh, my... I think I made the last visit to the old template site and one of the first to the new one! Is there a prize?
New one's better sorted out and easier to navigate, but I will miss the old one visual "splash", so to speak. But all in all, great work, canoe2. This project's coming a long way.
I was going to post a comment there, but I'll kill two birds with a stone and do it here: I own the Mango alternative to the Dior Mr. White jacket and, apart from the low quality (gets easily worn), I can confirm that the collar CAN be detached, even if my jacket has a black faux-fur collar instead of white. Hope that helps... Seriously awaiting Indy's version anyhow.

writingsonthewall: I'm going to miss the older a layout as well. It worked fine when there were only 10 or 12 posts, but now we're up to 37 and the scrolling was getting a little ridiculous. The old template also needed super large images to keep things looking nice, and those were becoming a pain to find. Thanks for the info on the Mango jacket; do you have any problem with me quoting your feedback in the post?
And sorry, no prize but you do get bragging rights (whatever that's worth!)
esk1020: Thanks!
I should also mention that when I was cleaning up the links I saw some great deals on some of the Solden jacket alternatives. http://www.iconicalternatives.com/tom-ford-solden-jacket/. Has anyone tried that Nordstrom Calibrate option yet?

Some comparison pics of the BC pants to show just how much the color can change depending on the environment.
Also, Matt S, I was wondering what you think about the texture of the BC chinos. I believe they are a gabardine cotton chino, does this give them a different texture than typical chinos? Like my Express chinos are 100% cotton, but they are very smooth. Would gaberdine have a rougher texture? Is it more like a twill trouser? Just trying to get a good idea of what might be decent alternative features that might give a similar texture and appearance to the BC trousers.

Chino cotton and gabardine cotton are very similar. Both are tight, steep twills. Chino cotton is often a 3x1 twill whilst gabardine can be a 2x1 or 2x2 twill. Gabardine tends to have a shinier finish. The wale on gabardine may seem more pronounced, but I might say it's smoother. Both chino cotton and gabardine cotton can vary bit and can be very similar. Overall, gabardine is a little harder and dressier whilst chino cotton is softer and more casual. Gabardine cotton trousers pair better with a tailored jacket than chinos do.
Even when the BC trousers look more grey than beige, they still have a warmth that is necessary when pairing them with the tan jacket. Straight-up grey clashes with the jacket. The colour of the trousers is best described as taupe. They either look like light taupe or dark taupe.
If anyone is looking for a more wallet friendly alternative to the Menlo jacket, the Eddie Bauer Journeyman is on sale right now for $239.00 (down from $399.00).

Thanks for the response Matt S. I was looking up gabardine and trying to get a basic understanding of the fabric and how it compares to a traditional chino, but I was finding it hard to connect the dots. Much appreciated man!
Well, I ended up grabbing the Banan Republic BC chino alternatives, even though I swore I wouldn't pay 80$ for them! ) anyway, they are fantastic. They are much darker in most lighting than the color on the website. They definitely take on a brownish tint and then a grayish tint depending on the light. They are very slim fit; though, I grabbed a 28 and I'm usually a 29 because that's all they had in the store, but I'm waiting on a 29 by mail, so we shall see what's best. Some quick pics below, but I'll post fit pics when I get the chance. The pictures really don't do them justice, even the color looks different in the pics, compared to what they look like in real life.
Dockers do a slim fit tapered chino style trouser in a colour they call 'dark pebble' - the colour looks close to the BC trousers in my opinion. 98% cotton, 2% elastane.
My name has changed! I’m no longer dufus......now I’m DB6
Dufus: the BR pants are really good and the taupe color is very much in line with what the BC chinos look like on screen; been watching the scenes over and over since the Spectre DVD came out They are not gabardine, but they are a dressier pant than a typical chino, so, for me, it's giving me the right vibe. The pants are really high quality too, so you definitely get your money's worth. I can't explain how much the taupe color makes a difference in elevating the look of the whole outfit. But, those Dockers you found look to be a good option too, and I'm sure the price point is much easier on the wallet.

I grabbed a size down because that's all they had in the store, but I think the size down is giving me a really good SA fit, so I'm expecting I'll be keeping them even after I try my normal 29's when they come in the mail. Will definitely post some fit pics when I get the chance. Hopefully tomorrow. -{
