    DanBond11: that looks great!

goneontheroad: I actually used a cotton Banana Republic one like that for a while as an alternative (was a little too hot here for suede). I have a post planned for alternatives for the suede BC jacket and also that cool navy cashmere cardigan/jacket. By the way, Grayers does make some nice stuff!

Hey, check this out. It's sort of... a budget Craig collector? I guess it's still welcome here.
    I just came across this....
    https://huckberry.com/store/grayers/category/p/47844-brighton-sportcoat

To me, it looks a lot like that brunello cucinelli nappa suede jacket Daniel Craig has been seen in.

I'm not familiar with the brand.
I think I know the one you mean but Dc's is suede.

That's the one that I meant. I really like that jacket, but the suede ones I've seen so far were heavily lined. That just makes them too hot for me to wear. I need to find that has a really light full lining or just has the back and the sleeves lined. Not much turning up
  • ChriscoopChriscoop Belize Posts: 10,458MI6 Agent
No, I've also looked, I'm not sure why so many manufacturers insist on fully lined, often with some degree of wadding and shoulder pads? I've got 2 leather jackets that I've removed the shoulder pads out of, the fit for me is instantly much better, but then I do have quite big shoulders. I also find that as the leather/ suede breaks in the pads become obvious.
This jacket is on my hitlist but after buying a Matchless jacket and various other pricey pieces I'll have to get a budget alternative. ...... Mrs coop just wouldn't tolerate it :#

Yeah, most of the affordable ones I've found are like that (or they have GREAT cowboy style details!). But I'm still on the hunt!

Question for the community: I need some help choosing the color for a Grenadine garza grossa tie. Would you go with mid-navy (top) or dark navy (bottom)?

  • ChriscoopChriscoop Belize Posts: 10,458MI6 Agent
    Personally I'd go mid.

I'm more a fan of the bottom one for contrast - what colour shirt are you wearing it with?

That "Professor" one is a great match! It ain't cheap, but it looks spot on! Saved it to include in the post with credit to you, good sir.

New post: I was finally able to review Dan's excellent Solden jacket!

    http://www.iconicalternatives.com/2017/09/26/royale-filmwear-solden-jacket-review/

I'll be updating the "alternatives" post for that jacket in the next couple of weeks.
  • ChriscoopChriscoop Belize Posts: 10,458MI6 Agent
It certainly isn't cheap! Definitely the " investment piece" but we are on a forum where people spend £1000 on a cardigan and a couple of hundred bucks on a synthetic jacket. while reading BAMF Style on Alex cross Bourne legacy belstaff one thing stuck with me, that "in the world of mens outerwear the belstaff was quite reasonable" which is true. It's all relative of course and blowing £500 on a jacket isn't realistic for most us.

I hear you. I've mentioned before that I sometimes struggle with determining what is "budget". Is it based on a percentage of the original item's price? Is it some kind of quality:price ratio? Is it a guesstimate of how much the average person would be willing to pay/can afford for a particular piece? Personally, I think that's a reasonable price for a good quality suede jacket. 9 times out of 10 you really do get what you pay for.

Post update! New alternatives for the Neil Barrett SPECTRE trousers:

    http://www.iconicalternatives.com/2015/12/11/neil-barrett-trousers/

Really happy about this one. It looks like there are some great options this season! Unfortunately, none with frogmouth pockets, but I found lots for under $100.

Is there any chance we could revisit some of Daniel Craig's flat caps? Especially for someone in the US? I assume it would have to be a budget version for the BC's. I was looking at some of those John Lewis caps from pages and pages ago. Not easy for someone in the US.

Yes! I actually have a post planned next week. A "Bond under $50"

New post: affordable alternatives for the suede Gilchrists boots:

    http://www.iconicalternatives.com/2017/09/28/r-m-williams-gilchrist-tobacco-suede-chelsea-boots/

Anything anyone is looking for specifically right now? On the list I have Craig flat caps, the suede blazer, and that BC navy notch lapel cashmere cardigan. Plus a ton of updates. But suggestions are always welcome!

Thanks explore007! Turns out I missed a few options out there

Do you think you could add those as an option in the comments for the post? I don't have time to edit it right now.

Thanks Chriscoop! Could you add those as a comment on the post?

Quick PSA: Barbour has done a collaboration with actor Sam Heughan and one of the pieces, the Dalkeith, comes very close to the To Ki To. It retails for about 300 pounds (250 without VAT). So about $100 than the Beacon at the END clothing website.

    TS10484OLIVE.jpg

It's only being sold in stores. House of Bruar has the olive one available online.

    http://www.houseofbruar.com/dalkeith-olive-l-green/

Macy's is supposed to be carrying it in the States but I can't find it on their website.

Budget - Aston Martin DBS. Not easy I hear you say!

    Hear me out.

Its a Ford, so basically an Aston Martin. It has a 3.0 V6 engine, whereas the DBS has two of these bolted together. Its dark metallic grey just like the DBS. It seats 2 adults and some very bendy small people, possibly. Just like the DBS. Its cool and Edgey. Ok, lost it....... :))

I give you the 2003 Ford Ranger 3.0 V6! Or Ford Rager as I like to call it. :D

Guys any suggestions on buying a Spectre NATO strap? Seen a lot on eBay from $3-$200.
I don't know if there's much of a difference most of the photos look the same. Anyone have any experience with the ones under $15?

I have one off eBay I paid around $12 for. It certainly looks the part and I have it on my budget $40 Casio diver. Quality is about what you would expect. I've worn it almost every day for more than a year and it's holding up. The big issue is that the holes will begin to wear out. I say get a cheap one and see how it holds up and if you like it. Just make sure you order the correct mm width. Hope this helps.

You can't really go wrong with a nato, the omega oem natos do feel more luxurious and high end but are they worth the money as a strap when so many others can do the same job? It's omega so yes. Timefactors do a great nato for around $15 but I'm not sure if they ship to the US, zulydiver are good, but any on eBay with decent reviews should do the job. Just make sure you get the right size.

The BC nortch lapel cardigan has been on my hitlist for ages as has the lanvino grey double breasted cardigan, I just can't find anything under 3-400 gbp!
