Okay, the link to the Paradise Found shirt is replaced with the new one. Strange how the old link was working last night and today it ups and quits

For the Enjoying Death shirt post, I'm seeing the new version on my computer and when I connect my phone to wifi. But off wifi, my phone is showing the old version. I'm on hold with my hosting service right now to see what's going on with that. Cache issue probably. It's happened before.

    Cheers!

    I think I found a good alternative to the TB Jamaica shirt;

For those interested, while visiting a Massimo Dutti store last week, I noticed a jacket kind of similar to Roger Moore's safari jackets.

    Hi all!
Took a break from formatting old posts (pain in the ...) to update the one for the Matchless jacket. There's some really good alternatives this season. Not cheap, but less than half the price of the Matchless or lower

    https://www.iconicalternatives.com/2015/12/06/spectre-matchless-craig-blouson/

Will let you guys know first the minute the site upgrades are completed!

Well, 24 hours has stretched into 72 ... we'll get it done!

In the meantime, stumbled across these swimshorts from Perry Eliis. NOT saying these are the Bond 25 shorts. But I like that they don't have the back pocket

    https://www.zappos.com/p/perry-ellis-solid-swim-shorts-navy-solid/product/9281296/color/79073

Cheap too! Only $29.99. Could be a good option until we find out what the real ones are. Should be easy to remove the Perry Ellis logo patch as well.

    Woohoo! Updates are done!

This is a long-ish post. Just skip it if this stuff doesn't interest you ...

Superficially, there aren't many changes. New header, new menu, made it easier to search the site, got rid of the slider, a few other little tweaks. As usual, most of the work took place under the hood. Which NO ONE cares about :))

What's important is why these changes were made. Like many of you, Bond has been kind of gateway drug into men's style in general. And over the last couple of years, I've been researching and digging in deeper into the areas that really interest me. I want to start using IA as place to share more about what I've learned on this journey.

Basically, this means expanding the content into new areas:

Brand Profiles: When I'm writing posts on a specific item, one thing I find fascinating are the stories behind the brands. Also, through my searches for alternatives, my participation on men's style forums and running my store, I come across smaller companies and designers that aren't really Bond related but who (imho) are doing some really amazing pieces. I'll be sharing more of those stories. These will NOT be sponsored posts! I just want to share cool stuff I think others will like :)

Iconic Essentials: These are basically the same as the current affordable alternatives posts, but encompassing a wider range of classic menswear pieces. Think trenchcoats, trucker jackets, perfectos, shell cordovan, cowboy boots, things like that. Designs that have been around forever and will fit into almost every guys wardrobe.

Other Style Influences: This is a big one for me and something I've wanted to do for a while. Right now I obviously focus on Bond, Craig and McQueen. But the range of influences that I talk about will be growing. This will include other classic Style Icons (Newman, Grant, etc.), a broader range of movies, different areas of men's style (workwear and denim, a little bit of street, contemporary Italian), and modern influences (current actors and some guys with style I really admire). I'm lining up interviews, profiles, how to articles, and more.

Lifestyle: Travel, entertainment, practical "How To" guides (shoe care, waxing your Barbour (sounds a little naughty :v ), clothing care), grooming, etc. I'm working with experts in different fields to create this content (I'm just smart enough to know what I don't know).

So that's what's coming down the pipeline! And I have much more planned for the near future!

However, this is a dedicated Bond fan forum. Please rest assured about two things. First, I am not abandoning Bond and will continue to update older posts and add new 007 content. Second, on AJB I will only share posts that are Bond related. In other words, I won't share a post here about Hermes ties or the history of Madras just to score visits. Just not ethical.

Okay, back to work for me! I've got some new content, updates on alternatives for the SPECTRE Playboy Chukkas and STA-Prest jeans, a review, and a new "4 Ways to Wear It" coming very soon!

Cheers all and thank you again for all the support! {[]

Excellent work, John! I know the difference all the work under the hood can make. And I'd love to see more from other style influences.

Fantastic, as someone who references bamfstyle I'm all for expanding the influences, despite being twice as tall there have been a few Ethan Hunt pieces I quite like, along with many others. Top work John, it's very much appreciated.

MattS and Chriscoop: thank you both for the kind words!

Superindendent: in my craziness, I missed your post on the MD jacket. I have a post coming up on Safari jackets and I will make sure to include this one with credit to you!

First post in a new series! Simply called "5 Things I Want". Because it's about ... five things I want. You'll see what I mean. There are a couple of Bond related items included, so I think it's okay to share it here.

Fancy some of those new Orlebar Brown thunderball shorts, but not the price?
    Speedo has your back

The label looks stitched on so could be removed, all sizes still available. Though the description calls the colour grey? I've just bought some to add to my ob and David gandy collection of shorts.

Nice finds Chriscoop! Especially the shorts! I have to admit, the pricing on some of those OB pieces had me laughing.

drum007, I'm looking forward to seeing the jacket! Which Belstaff is it a repro of?

New post is up. Warning: this is NOT Bond related and this will be the only time I share one here. But it is my first attempt at a new series focused on smaller brands doing cool things. And I'd really like feedback from some of you on the style, content, etc.

I do plan on doing profiles of some Bond brands as well: Brioni, N.Peal, Barbour, Cucinelli, etc. Just lining up interviews.

Tomorrow I have the updated post for the Sanders Playboy Chukkas

Oh, and it looks like R.M. Williams is getting sold again. Wonder what that will do to the price ....

John, yes those prices are remarkable, as an OB fan with, 10+ items of theirs in my wardrobe I'll be sticking to the standard lines.

I was looking to MAYBE get a pair of RM Williams boots but I need to figure out the best size for me using their sizing system. In regards to RM Williams being sold again I think prices will go up again and I think the quality will go down! It makes me worried that IF quality goes down how's the repair service going to be?

I've found their quality has remained pretty much at the same top level over the past five years or so. Re the company getting sold again, I don't think it will have an affect on prices or quality, I think it will just be a simple shift in ownership, no major aftershocks on the store and product level. I'm surprised they are being sold actually seeing as they've had several years in a row now of solid increases in sales.
  • canoe2canoe2 Posts: 2,007MI6 Agent
I also think it will mainly just be a shift in administrative ownership. It will interesting to see if LVMH still plays a role. In the end, they definitely added serious value to the RMW brand. Whoever the new owners are, I doubt they'll want to burn that bridge.

Sadly, it seems like the ones most affected by the initial sale to LVMH in 2017 and probably this next sale are the small stockists in Australia that had been working with RMW for years.

Speaking of RM Williams gilchrist, I've just bought some of these to replace my completely worn out pair, for anyone not familier with these, they are handmade (though in which country I don't know) they use premium Italian calf leather and they have a Goodyear dainite soul with storm welt. Ive had a pair of their leather soled boots that were bought for as a present some 12 years ago, they have been resolved twice and are still going strong. Not bad for £50.

There’s one but these are closest and sold out. Since they change so fast I’d bet H&M shorts would be inspired by whatever the actual shorts are, but they are good look alike sub for us looking.

Yes I was looking at hybrid tech shorts from brands like Prana, lululemon, and Rhône and then what they may have been inspired by. I’d say that these are more than likely something like that really not a lot of use for swimming shorts to have zippered pockets.
  • canoe2canoe2 Posts: 2,007MI6 Agent
You and I were thinking of the same brands. And a lot of shorts for white water sports and sailing have zippered pockets.
  • lotusguy2001lotusguy2001 Posts: 132MI6 Agent
Look at Mack Weldon swim shorts also they no longer make the solid color, but they used to and they have a drawstring and zippered side pockets.
