The True Crime Discussion Thread

I see we've never had one of these here on AJB so I thought that I would start a thread for the discussion of true crime in the UK, the US and around the world. It can encompass any crime from any era, the details, how the criminal was caught, if the criminal was caught etc.
We can discuss anything from Jack the Ripper to Oscar Pistorious and from Fred West to Dr Harold Shipman.
Here is the place for True Crime discussions and analysis.
I'm particularly interested in how True Crime has influenced the James Bond novels and films over the years if this is of interest to anyone else.
So what will we discuss to get the ball rolling?
How about the recent Oscar Pistorious Trial and the changing of the lesser culpable homicide conviction to that of murder for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp whom he shot through a locked bathroom door in his house on 14 February 2013?
What are our thoughts on that case? I have to say they have finally delivered the correct conviction decision as the culpable homicide conviction was far too lenient for what was a reckless disregard for life when Pistorious fired through that bathroom door at his girlfriend on that fateful night.

Sometimes, real life can be even more unbelievable, than anything Hollywood
can dream up.
On the Pistorious case ( I agree, he should have been facing a murder charge
from the beginning) his story, just doesn't ring true. Even my wife said. If you
Hear a noise at night, you check on your wife/husband/girl or boyfriend, if they're
Not there. Then they're most likely to be in the bathroom, making the noise.
Also I can't speak for others but I think most people would do a lot of shouting
Threats through the door, maybe even firing the gun ( in the air) ?
To me at least it seems odd, to go from sleeping to shooting someone four times
With snub nosed bullets ( maximum wounding effect) but Pistorious, has fame and
Wealth on his side, rather like Sepp Blatter. The full extent of the law never really
reaches these people.
