Bond's mobile phone in SPECTRE

There is a similar thread in the SPECTRE section but it's neverthless connected with collecting so I decided to start a new one anyway. If my eyesight is right Bond is using not the XPERIA Z5 and not even the Z4 but the old Z3 in the movie. I'm basing my observations on the leaked DVDSCR version and although his phone is visible for a couple of seconds during the car chase, you can notice the speaker over the SONY logo just above the screen - the new ones have the speaker exactly on the edge of the phone, whereas the old Z3 has a speaker between the edge and the SONY logo if that makes sense. The BluRay will clarify my doubts, but if it ends up being correct then it will be probably odd? Of course the Z3 is way cheaper then the Z5 so that will be one advantage.

Interesting! Maybe the Z5 was not ready in time for shooting

I don't think there was a z4? I got my new phone z3 last July and it was the current model then
It was either that.....or the priesthood

There was a Z4 in Japan, in Europe it was called the Z3+ I believe... It was a pretty confusing situation :)

Yes that's right. I was offered the z3+ but it was so similar to the z3 it didn't warrant the extra expense. I'm really pleased with my phone as I have been with my last 4 sony phones most of my electronics are sony. I couldn't imagine bond with a silver apple logo on his phone.

Same here! I have a tradition of buying the phone Bond uses since Casino Royale, so currently I still have the XPERIA T from Skyfall :)

A Friend, who worked for Sony, told me that they used an early prototype of the z5, so i believe your right about the different look. But it's not a Z3

I'm very surprised not to see any review on the Xperia Z5.
As I wrote in the other thread, I bought the limited edition and find it fantastic. The battery last for more than one day!

I use the Z2 and its top speaker is at the edge of the phone too, so the difference is likely due to internal design, it's not a difference between the old and new.

Yes but the Z3 has a different placing and that's what gives it away -{ The BluRay will verify it nonetheless.

Having the full HD version I have to say that I was right I'm afraid - it indeed looks like the Z3 - but the Z3 COMPACT. Two reasons - it's the only XPERIA Z series that has such a speaker (the rest of the family have speakers on the upper edge). The position of the front camera on the other hand indicates that it's the smaller brother of the Z3, which is great since the compact versions are also powerfull but don't feel like a book in your pocket. Pictures proving my theory. First a screenshot from the movie:

    Here is the Z3 Compact:

And the bigger brother, the Z3 which clearly has the camera in a different place:

I feel kinda sorry for you guys who bought the Z5 thinking that it will end up being used by Bond :( Bad marketing by SONY again!

Sorry :( I waited because I have to be certain always when it comes to the stuff Bond is using... Same with the XPERIA T in Skyfall, it was silver not black like Sony said and had a back cover similar to the XPERIA TX (but that one never came out in silver). So like I said - bad marketing by SONY AGAIN!

I'm a very optimistic person and do not regret my purchase...
If I follow Sony's poor marketing strategy, I already have the Sony JB will use in Bond 25 :D

Have my dummy Z3 Compact on the way, luckily I only went for a dummy Z5 originally so it's only cost me pennies not pounds, just need to strip it and insert the graphic of Mr White when it arrives. {[]

Nice! Thank you for trusting me because everyone will kill me once we will discover there is another similar looking model O.o But I doubt that, I will buy the real Z3 Compact in the following months for sure because my silver XPERIA T is getting old :(

    Oh on btw. thank you Welsh! -{

A couple of days ago my XPERIA T, after 5 years of service, died in pain - I cracked it so badly that the phone is beyond repair, which made me tear up to be honest. 8-)

Anyway, it was high time to buy a new one and finally I had a good excuse to buy the Z3 Compact. I was just curious if anyone of you has or had this phone for some time, are there any particular things I should worry about? My initial impressions are quite positive, and so are most of the reviews on the internet.

Does anyone have any idea where to pick up an unlocked Z3 Compact?

I checked ebay and all the sellers there seem very dodgy with spotty reviews.

Wow, never saw this thread before and apparently I have been using James Bond's phone for a while now! I didn’t buy a Sony because of the Bond connection but because it is waterproof, compact and a bit different from all the Samsungs and iPhone you see everywhere. I was very happy with my previous Sony and have been happy with my Z3 Compact so far, with a few exceptions. A notorious flaw in the Z3 Compact is the audio jack that lasts about 6 months before you encounter connection problems. For some reason the plug doesn’t connect to the jack properly so it becomes useless. I am far from the only one to have this problem. Another thing is that the rubber seals surrounding the covers of the places where you insert your charger and SD card are a bit flimsy.

My girlfriend has the same phone and has the exact same problems.

Thank you for that info! I take ridiculous care of my electronics usually (like cleaning the phone every day for instance) so hopefully I will avoid those jack connection problems. I also read already that the back panel likes to crack when the temperature difference is too high (that is when you're coming inside a warm room from outside where it's like =18 Celsius). So that's definitely something I have to have in mind.

As for an unlocked Z3 - I bought mine for a low price, like over 50 dollars lower then the rest on allegro.pl. It seems weird because the phone is factory new (has 2 years of Sony warranty) but it had already the newest Android installed and the package has no IMEI number on it (which usually means that you either have a stolen phone or it was refurbished). I checked the IMEI in a few online databases and it seems to be absolutely clear so I might have bought a refurbished one - but the problem is that refurbished models have only 12 months warranty, not 2 years. So i have no bloody idea what's wrong, the phone looks absolutely new, it was just definitely updated already from the factory installed Android to a newer one.

    Odd. Rings any bells perhaps?

I've got the full size z3, it's just 2 years old and I have had none of the problems mentioned. I've had a z model Xperia since the first z first came out and can't fault them. I also have Sony smart tv's and love the connectivity between the Sony products. I have an upgrade next month and will most likely go for a z5.

I was thinking about buying a Z5 compact actually but frankly it's not any better than the Z3 - the performance is just slightly better but overall the built quality is not as good (that's what an Orange consultant told me yesterday). I have not opted for a full size versions since they're just too big for my taste, the Z3 compact is a few mm smaller then the XPERIA T so it's perfect, it fits in my running armband and I don't need a purse to carry it around!

Z5 is great, had no issues and Def prefer it to z3
Screen, sound, camera and build all far superior to z3
Popped the Spectre theme on (thanks Chris) and happy days

Not saying I take extreme good care of my stuff but it is a problem that is often mentioned by others as well. Also, I have never had this issue with any op my iPod/mp3 players along the years.

Sounds like a big flaw... Currently I'm using NFC earbuds with my phone so maybe that will not be a very important issue to me.

As for the cheap price and no IMEI number - I contacted SONY today and well, the real story has been revealed - the phone was completely destroyed and was serviced back in April. It has a new motherboard, new casing, screen, 90% of the items where basically replaced. Hence the lack of the IMEI number on the box. The seller was selling it as brand new so I'm confused, I'm not pissed since the phone really looks and behaves like new so I have no reason to return it but sellers like that piss me seriously off.

So let this be a reminder for the future - if you have any doubts about a SONY phone you want to buy, ask the seller for it's IMEI number and contact SONY Support, they will be happy to assist you and will tell you everything the seller is hiding - including the expiration date of the warranty.
