This looks promising i believe it's adapted from a John Le Carre novel

    Yes I commented on this last week. It looks good on the trailer, and could well be tom hiddlestons bond audition. It has a great cast and it is based on le carre novel with the same title. So no reason for it to be a dud really??

    Best tv of the year so far, was in the Tom Hughes camp for 007 number 7 but after watching this I think Hiddleston would be excellent and sign Hugh Laurier up as a Villian ( the way their making everything personnel for Bond it could transpire that Lauries character turns out to be Bonds Aunt Charmain :)) )

    I couldn't help but think that Hiddleston would have made a good Bond except for the fact that he has a look of a young Ralph Fiennes.

    Really enjoyed Night Manager though! I want to read the book now but I'm going to hold off until I've seen the series because I don't want to ruin the surprise. Oh the discipline!!!!

    Excellent viewing so far, I think hiddleston would get my nod if he came up for bond.

    I don't see it, but I could be wrong. Hiddleston looks like he would burst into tears if someone stole his blankie.

    After last night's episode, I watched it with this thought in mind. It showed Hiddleston a little bit more intense and less reliant on blankie for emotional well being.

    Still getting my vote.

    Mine to.The arc has him getting tougher all the time. In the first episode he is plausible as the Night Manager with a past, but by episode 2 he is showing his true colours and engaging in very credible fisticuffs with bone crunching efficiency. He can really wear a suit and moves well with gravitas. Not saying that he is the only man for the job, but so far I would be more than ok with him. He's the right age to be young enough and have experience (I'm worried about the potential for a 12 year old wet behind the ears Bond) he has that Officer vibe that Mrs Zaphod misses. All in all a good candidate. His profile is such (known but not too well known) that he must surely be in the running. Give him another look Grassy old chap.

    I'm looking forward to seeing it. I haven't read that many Le Carre novels (although I am actually reading Our Kind of Traitor at the moment) but I have enjoyed various film and tv adaptations of his books. The cast looks terrific and it is also nice to see that Mr Cornwell himself is very pleased with the adaptation.

    Doesn't have that look when playing Loki in the Thor/Avengers movies - I'd say he'd make a very credible Bond

    Looks like he's getting a lot of support here. I'm interested to see if GM revises his opinion after seeing him in episode 2. Mr Hiddleston notwithstanding the whole thing has a Bond like sheen, more so than Spectre I'm afraid to say. Plus some subtle homage in the Score. It also is building some genuine tension and a sense of jeopardy. I'm loving it. :007)

    Those opening credits are very 007 , the speed boats turning into missiles all it needs is a few naked women and Bond's your Uncle .

    It's the best thing the BBC has turned out for ages, I thought hiddleston would make a decent bond when I saw him in warhorse, his character in that has similarities to DC in sword of honour.
    I'm really enjoying this series, it's a bit removed from the book but only to modernise it I think. After last night episode while hiddleston was laid up recovering was anyone else reminded of
    DC in CR or literary bond who ended up in bed recovering in a few novels?

    He even looks like Bond in the famous cartoon, of what the literary Bond was
    supposed to resemble. :)

    He does have a distinctive look and voice and would be authentic class-wise. I wouldn't complain but they would need to make the character less of an 'action man'. Would not be keen on them casting Tom Hardy- he was awful inWuthering Heights and looks very bland.

    Having been watching The Night Manager, I have to say tne entire cast is brilliant. Hugh Laurie is
    especially good. -{ even the opening titles are terrific. One of the things I like is the camera work
    some of the close ups during a dramatic sequence are only inches from the actors face, so you can
    really see the expressions in their eyes. -{

    I agree about Hugh Laurie. All I used to picture was his Blackadder character but now, having watched The Night Manager, he plays a convincing villain.

    The show has taken an interesting turn as well. I'll be interested to see what Corky does next...

    I've never watched "House" so haven't seen much of Hugh Laurie as a serious actor, but he is fantastic
    still amusing but with a sneering undercurrent, and a hint of violence. -{

    Yes I heard that, all depending on le carre agreeing to the story, this is my TV highlight of the week.

    Agreed, a brilliant programme. -{ It's a joy to find something as good, among all
    The crap they put out.

    I "discovered" Stan Lee's Lucky Man this weekend. I quite enjoyed that.

    But back to the Night Manager, I am seriously thinking about trying the Le Carre books. Obvs, wont be as good as Fleming. But in the absence of any more Bond books at the moment, need something else to read.

    This is bloody brilliant. Out does SPECTRE in it's cinematography (20 million pound budget versus 150 million pound budget), outclasses SPECTRE in the suspense (the end of episode 3 with the changeover of companies was nail biting) and the acting and direction really is top notch.

    It looks like SPECTRE the way that London Spy "looked" like Skyfall - really showing off the locations instead of muting them. Can't wait for episode 4.

    BTW - I really liked SPECTRE but this is truly another league. If you like DC's take on a contemporary Bond and you're not watching this you are really missing out. It's what EON should be aiming for.

    Le Carre is very different to Fleming. I first tried reading Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy around the time that I was reading the Fleming books for the first time, and I found it impossible to read because my expectations for a spy novel were that it should be like a Bond novel. I eventually got into Le Carre around the time that the film of Tinker Tailor was coming out. I determined that I would read the novel before seeing the film and that is what I did and I really enjoyed both the novel and the film (and the TV series too.) Since then I have read a few more Le Carre novels. If you want to give them a try, I suggest 'The Spy Who Came In From The Cold' - it was Le Carre's first major success and it is a lean, tense, thrilling spy novel. Nothing like Bond, but it isn't supposed to be. It is a glimpse at the murky, dirty side of espionage and the immoral, jaded characters that inhabit that world.

    Back onto the topic of The Night Manager, I have watched the first two episodes so far and enjoyed them very much. The previous BBC adaptations of John Le Carre's novels have been excellent (although I have yet to see The Perfect Spy.) I have also started reading the novel concurrently with watching the series. My aim is to try and finish it before the series ends, although that might not be possible at it his a fairly hefty novel.
