Bond in Peril

Searched through the forums and didn't find a thread defining what I'm looking for here.

What moments in the series have you thought "Oh my god, Bond might die here." or "There's no way he can get out of this!" Of course, when thinking logically, there is no way they would kill of Bond halfway through the film, but the danger of the situation seemed so real that there was no way at that moment in time you thought Bond could get out of it.

For me there are two moments that come to mind immediately.

1.) In the crematorium in DAF. Yes strangely enough a moment in DAF, perhaps the campiest of all Bonds is where I find Bond at his most vulnerable and in peril. When he's in that coffin and the flames are on full blast with the creepy music playing in the background, I thought it was it for our hero!

2.) Rock climbing in FYEO. With each and every hit from the henchmen on Bond's carabiners, I couldn't help but think 'There is no way Bond is getting all the way back up there in time to stop him from knocking the final peg loose!'

At the mercy of Red Grant on the train in FRWL and being lasered by Goldfinger in um....GF are probably the two best examples I can think of.
Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.

Great subject. Let's see if we can turn it into a peril ranking thread :007) So many spring to mind mainly from Big Tam's films. Odd job in GF I always think there is no way he can beat this guy, the fight when all really looks lost and you see fear on his face and then...he tosses the fire into the bath. Red G on the Train of course, OHMSS where he is spent, over and waiting for the inevitable end after being chased by Blofeld men and then, and then Tracy turns up (beautifully played by Georgy boy

The fight between Bond and Mr Hinx on the train in Spectre comes to mind...truly brutally brilliant!

It lacked something for me. I would have loved it to slow down just for a moment so we could read Bonds fear, but it just carried on in its admittedly brutal way. I would have liked Daniel to have more to do (not physically you understand ) I'm probably very nearly on my own here as most seem to really rate it. For me the outstanding fisticuffs in the Craig era have been the bathroom and the stairwell in CR both superb and amongst the very best. We certainly see Daniel's mind at work in those ones.

As much as I'm not a fan of the movie, the centrifuge in MR comes to mind first. THAT was a tense scene, thanks to Rog.
Dario & the conveyor belt in LTK and the Hinx fight in SP are up there for me too.
Dalton & Connery rule. Brozz was cool.

Agree with Dario. Roger to me looked more constipated than in peril. Also Dalton after truck scene in LTK seems genuinely in major do do.

Centrifuge scene in Moonraker is #1 for me. Perfect setup, clever use of gadget, and Roger Moore's shell-shocked reaction afterwards seals it as one of the best Bond scenes.

I use the classic laser beam scene in Goldfinger in class as an example of a great set up. Bond is tied to slab of gold, he has no gadget to rely on, there is no rescue coming, and the laser is going to dissect him. How can he possibly escape?

And then the writers brilliant show he is a thinking person, and he talks his way out of it. A wonderful moment in a movie that could so easily have relied just on an action scene to resolve the conflict.

Yes, your are correct. There's a reason that movie is a classic.

I'll rephrase the question for myself, as I've never thought Bond would die. But more of 'How's he going to get out of that?' the first time I saw each film.

    - Bond in the crematorium (DAF)
    - Bond and Solitaire tied up (LALD)
    - Bond on the conveyer belt (LTK)
    - Bond and Kaufman (TND)
    - Torture chair (TWINE)
    - Torture (CR)
    - Brain torture (SP)
