In an interview, someone asked Waltz why he doesn't wear socks in Morocco. He responded by saying it's very hot. He didn't even correct the interviewer. No socks would be preferable to these.

As a stickler DC should have oxfords on with that suit. I guess with the activity derbies (on Dainite?) are more practical?

The Dainite soles make the shoes much more pracitcal, and the derby style is also easier on the foot for action. But there's nothing wrong with wearing derbys with a suit, so long as the shoe has a single sole and formal last. Bond has been doing it since Dr. No. Oxfords are not the only shoe that is appropriate with a suit, no matter what iGents on the internet will have you believe. I only put my foot down when it comes to wearing sandals with a suit, like Bond does in the Thunderball novel.
