I avoided most of the leaked SPECTRE emails because I didn't want to see any potential spoilers....what I did see were mainly studio execs bitching about the budget. Most of them sounded like they wouldn't know a good film from a pile of bat s..t and could care less.
The new DB11 is a beauty and the performance specs are breathtaking....but I'm going to let my own personal prejudice take over here and state for the record that the only current production Aston still available with a manual gear box is the Vantage and James Bond as his primary, gov issued ride would and should only be driving a manual. There are certain ways of controlling a car that can only be done with a manual. Bond driving an Aston with an automatic...what's next, clip on ties and velcro shoes?

I'm fine with an Aston in Bond...but at this point I really wouldn't mind just a cameo for the DB5 (like in TND) and then just have the car chase (assuming there IS one) with a commandeered/situationally convenient vehicle...IMO, Eon needs to shake up the status quo a bit, and another grey/silver Aston Martin with gadgety surprises runs the risk of looking like a retread - which is the last thing the series needs in #25.

Totally in agreement. I think we could use a break from the gadget filled supercar. A cameo by the DB5 is always welcome. A neat little scene with the DB5 could be Q visiting or meeting with Bond with Bond either driving or tinkering with the DB5 at his garage. Q remarking to Bond "That's quite an antique, but I would be up for the challenge of making some "upgrades" for active service". Bond replies: "No thanks Q, I'd like to keep this one around for a while....getting harder to find replacements these days".
Maybe it's just time to avoid the car chases unless no gadgets are used - perhaps like the brief chase in Casino Royals. DC's best car chase imo is the opening sequence of QoS - the Spectre chase lacked any real sense of jeopardy. Having said that, it would be great to see the DB11 one way or another.
Personally I think the Aston Martins should be used to suit any cover bond is assuming, it worked in cr as bond was using the cover of a millionaire poker player, the BMW 7 series worked in TND as bond was supposed to be a banker. Simply having an mi6 agent driving around in a company Aston Martin is realisticly ludicrous. The db5 is a different thing all together as depending on your view it's bonds personal car. I like bond in the Aston Martin but if you accept it no matter what then you have to accept all manner of unrealistic details in the name of escapism I'm undecided if I want a gritty realistic bond or pure fantastical escapism? I like bond films with both. I'd also prefer the next movie to sidestep a bit of the formula and replace a car chase with a different sequence. Skyfall has no car chase nor does tb and they were pretty successful films

I agree with this, it always made more sense when the incredibly pricey and attention grabbing car was a part of Bond's cover instead of just the car MI6 gives out.
A sniper shoot out will easily become uncinematic. It involves two or more individuals who barely move and are very far away from each other. The other component is one or more bullets that move so fast it can't be filmed. I'm not saying sniper combat can't be great cinema, but unlike a car chase or a knife fight, it requires an excellent script and an excellent director not to be bad.
No, only just a few times: three. They should have stuck with British directors. Campbell, Tamahori and Forster have made some of the worst films of the series.

Some people actually like Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. 8-)
I was a bit inaccurate when I wrote British. I don't mind them using NZ and Australian directors.
Then experience supports this limitation, since DAD and QoS are a one the least popular Bond movies among hard core Bond fans.

I believe QoS doesn't rate that poorly among the 'hard core' fans...

Forster is the only non-Commonwealth Director, the Tamahori and Campbell are both from a Commonwealth country, New Zealand.

I wouldn't. The world is plenty bleak. Bond is an escape.

) True, but unfortunately for me it's also academic!
