That's fine. But I'm not talking about his intent when he said it, or the reason(s) that he said it, which were provided well after the fact. I'm talking about what he said. And the word "now", complete with a question mark, is not a strong enough qualifier to provide any meaningful context to his statement. I don't think he's being misquoted.

Look, we can turn it around and around....

He said it. It can't be undone. In every article about Bond the quote gets mentioned.

I'm biased anyway when it comes to Craig, but I rather have someone play Bond next who actually has fun doing it.

Well most the press are missing out the "Now?" completely so I would say misquoted and makes a massive difference

    Anyhow respectfully agree to disagree and all that -{

I think we can agree to say he was naive to say anything negative when promoting the film. Wouldnt surprise me if he was in a pub again doing these interviews after a few pints, seems to be a regular thing he's does with mags etc which is not very wise

It wasn't the best thing he could say near a journalist. A bit like Dalton during the filming of LTK, when he said he suspected this could be the last Bond movie ever.

Dc said that filming Spectre was the most fun he has had making a bond film. Unfortunately todays press are masters of the misquote and recycling it so often it becomes fact. As Welshie says that quote always misses out the key words that put it in context, I'm sure we've all said things with flippancy that can be taken out of context and I know he gets paid millions to do this stuff but cut the guy some slack pretty much every modern actor has had bad interviews some far far worse than what Dc said. If you don't like him as bond or as a person then that's fine but he's human and had an error of judgement with his sense of humour, I got what he meant and as a life long bond fan I didn't take offence, maybe you have to be British to get that sort of remark? I tend to recall seeing connery in interviews saying much worse things about bond.

I once read an article about the pull-quotes on film posters, ads etc where they say "Best film of the year" when the actual quote was something like "In the hands of a more accomplished director, this could have been the best film of the year." It's selective editing to better suit the film's distributor, or in the case of DC's missing 'Now', provides a news editor with a more lurid headline.

It happened to Tom Hardy when they edited a quote of his saying he has slept with men, which then caused an avalanche of Hardy is gay! In fact he closed one journo down for asking him about it.

Oh come on, if you had the crazy shooting schedule that SPECTRE had, surely you would've said the same thing.
He did have some fun, he enjoys playing Bond but that doesn't mean that he can't get a bit tired.

As for the quote, I thought that the timing was off but Craig himself said that he bs a lot during interviews.
It was foolish...but a man tires of being interviewed.

Of course he could have said it better as you suggest however the media have 100% twisted it by conveniently ignoring "Now?"

It's about 20% Craig's fault for saying it in a climate where everything has an internet half-life of a hundred years; 50% the press' fault for distorting it and keeping it afloat; and 30% the audience's fault for being overly literal/practically on the autism spectrum when it comes to parsing meaning and intent. To act like it's some final word on the subject and throw out everything else he's said since is being willfully obtuse.

    Sad but true.

But that is not the media's fault.

Craig said those words which was stupid of him even for his standards.

"I rather break this glass and slash my twists than..."

Those words have become his legacy.

Accept you (and the press) miss out the very first word he said which changes the context completely!!!

Q: Can you imagine doing another Bond movie?
Now? I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists. No, not at the moment.

Agree though it was still a dumb thing to say during the promotion of the film. He should of known better of the consequences and the press

    I absolutely agree with you 100% !

Selective editing to make a 'story' where there just wasn't one 8-)

It's also literally what Craig has said in the wake of the comment being taken literally, seriously, and out of context.

I don't think Bond 25 will be a redo of OHMSS. But I do think they will do the hypothetical revenge sequel that we never got. Which I am personally fine with. It gives the fans a possible YOLT influenced sequel, using up pretty much the last of the Fleming canon not previously strip mined. It gives Craig the opportunity to play his Bond still personally invested in the stakes of the mission* and lastly allows EON the opportunity of potentially improving the audience's oppinions of Spectre, a divisive film at best, by making it the new canon equivalent to OHMSS by comparison.

    * Side Note - I do feel the reason we have not got a conventional 'Bond on a mission' story with Craig's Bond is because Craig himself is not interested in playing Bond in a conventional Bond movie. If EON are really wanting Craig back they are going to need to get his appetite artistically as well as financially.

Absolutely true. Manners maketh the man. The franchise was saved under his watch.

The thing is, many, many fans just want a Bond on a mission movie, instead of an endless multi movie character arc. I long for a movie where the story starts and finishes on one visit to the Imax. It now seems like it is more important for the makers to look as if they're making something serious and meaningful, rather than pull off something apparently far more difficult.

    Straightforward entertainment.

We've moved on from the Bourne influence on Casino. Lets leave "realism" behind for a while, and give us who pay for the seat some wholesome fantasy. Just like Fleming did when he wrote the books. And if DC doesn't want to do that, he should step aside.

Could not agree more. Fleming wrote Bond as escapism, Bond had his issues but was essentially a power fantasy for his audience and himself. I really like Craig's portrayal of Bond but I don't want to be him, i want to look like him, dress like him, but not live his life.

Excellent way of putting it. I ran a marathon back in February. In the days following, I had no desire to even think about running. Now 6 months later, I'm back at it.

It's the same concept for sure.

What irony would it be if in the end P+W indeed would adapt the book in question or only part of it.

Quite amusing, can't wait for the next plot twist in this soap opera.

I find this story terribly ironic.

MI6-HQ made their name by plagiarizing multiple news outlets. They hacked commanderbond.net and literally copied stories from their servers, as evidenced by their posting a trumped-up story posted to commanderbond.net's servers (which was never intended to be uploaded to the internet) as bait.

I'm tempted to join their forum and call them out on this...

When this story first broke, I made the comment then that for much of my life my jobs have involved a great deal of travelling some of it quite luxurious, some of it very rough and arduous. Regardless of the style or the destination, I love travelling, but there have been many times that I've got home after a trip and said "I'd rather slash my wrists than travel again." However, a couple of weeks later I was ready to head off on another adventure.

This was many years ago, when MI6-HQ was starting out and commanderbond.net had a more active community. There are members on this forum that can corroborate what I've said, if they so desire to speak publicly about it. Of course, we all know which site has come out on top.
