Good choice...now...what direction will the films take...?
An excellent question! He seems the sort of actor who might be able to bridge the gap between gritty and a lighter tone. He does seem a bit posh, but that can certainly be made to play well :007) I do want to see his 'Night Manager' series.
I do hope the 'serious' tone is kept...the balance in SPECTRE at times was spot on...with a new actor I just hope they bring in new scriptwriters -{
I enjoyed 'The Night Manager'....definitely worth a watch regardless of TH getting the gig...
I hope the tone for Bond 25 onwards is more traditional a la SPECTRE, just with a better script.

You could be right but I found nothing wrong with Craig's delivery, same with
Dalton, as he's sometimes criticised for the same thing. In fact thinking about
it Lazenby also gets a bit of criticism for bad delivery.
Maybe I just not a good judge of actors, as I love Bruce Willis, Arnie etc.

Assuming Hiddleston is our man, an Autumn 2018 release seems likely. A quick look at Wikipedia reveals that Avengers Infinity War is set to start filming in November 2016 and continue until June. Hiddleston is confirmed to play a role, although it's unclear how large. But it seems unlikely he could film that movie as well as Bond simultaneously.

Couldn't agree more. I've always preferred the more serious approach, and although SP occasionally dabbled in John Glenn slapstick (airbag deployment, etc), I thought they did well with the overall tone given Mendes' stated goal of a 'traditional,' check-the-boxes Bond film.
I'm intrigued by Hiddleston, and as always will give the new fellow a chance, even if the choice seems a bit counter-intuitive (like Craig's selection, but for very different reasons!) at the moment.

I would be happy enough with Hiddy-baby as the next Bond. I suspect there are better choices out there (can't think of any off the top of my head, mind you) but I KNOW there are many, many, many far worse options! Hiddleston's a very good actor. He's got the public school air that I believe is still good for Bond. He showed in The Night Manager that he can have a ruthless edge. He's not perfect, but like a bird in the hand I'd jump at him rather than take a chance on what's behind door number two.
My wife mentioned she saw something the other day about Hiddleston having been spotted somewhere with Mendes. The author put two and two together and got double-oh seven. Not sure if Sam is expected to be back for Bond 25 so it might be nothing, or maybe Babs asked for Sam's opinion on Tom as Bond, or Tom wanted Sam's opinion of Bond. Or maybe it's completely irrelevant. However, the rumour mill is certainly moving towards Hiddleston with increasing speed and momentum.

The report I read on the always 100% accurate and truthful internet was that Hiddleston was spotted at some club with Mendes and Barbara Broccoli. Hiddleston's representative's reponse was that it was just a coincidence and Hiddleston was there with a non-industry friend not Sam and Barbara. Based upon the way EON has done business in the past in selecting / vetting a new Bond it would seem very out of character that they would meet with someone in so public a place at this stage.
How about if we morph Tom Hardy and Tom Hiddleston into one? You have the brutality and the urbane gentlemanliness, the physicality and the grace, the height and width, the posh and the commoner, and both have superb acting skill. And it would be easy to come up with a combo-name: Hardy Hiddleston (surely someone with that name attended school with Ian Fleming?).
Surely you've seen that photo of Hiddleston wearing fluorescent trainers and standing beside the Queen Mary 2, haven't you Higgins? I'll have to find it and post it :v
This is a few months old now, I guess, so someone may have posted it before although I don't recall having seen it or heard about it and have only just stumbled on it.
There's some good stuff in it. He clearly got on well with the interviewer. Here's DC's take on the next Bond:
Martin McDonagh: I’m assuming you don’t care who plays Bond next…
Daniel Craig: No!
However, my favourite bit was this exchange:
Talking of which, in terms of bars and such, can you still do all that these days?
Bars are hard, but that’s more because of mobile phones. I’ll do autographs all day long, and I’ll even do a picture at the end of an evening. But if I’m being photographed all night long in a bar, that pisses me off. If you ask, I may say yes, but come up to me and say, “Would you like to take a photograph with me?” If you’re **** sneaking photographs of me … it’s human nature, you’re sneaking something! I’m being fucked with! But people don’t see it as a problem. Maybe I’m delusional.

I'd be fine if Tom was cast but I'm super keen for an unknown, or someone who has only been in minor roles.
After the unprecedented success of the Craig films, I suppose we shouldn't be surprised that EON would be more inclined to go with a known quantity like Hiddleston. He's a safe choice. With the franchise in a healthy state, perhaps they decided that now is not the time to take a big risk.
It also fits with the well know Bond formula, ( Unless no one has heard of it before,
Then it becomes comes my idea )
Lazenby an unknown followed by Moore who was established
Moore followed by Dalton an unknown followed by Brosnan ( Established)
Followed by Craig an unknown, so Hiddleston would fit as an established
actor ?

Sorry TP, but Craig was hardly an 'unknown'. Layer cake was very well received and he had many other film titles under his belt - Enduring Love, Infamous, Munich, The Jacket but to name a few...

Bond with Spectre, I hope they pull it back a little next time.
It wasn't the humor itself, but rather Craig's uncertain delivery of the humorous bits. perhaps Hiddleston will be more adept at that aspect.
